ABA Middle School Teacher

Intensive Education Academy Inc. is currently seeking an ABA Middle School Teacher to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Intellectual Disabilities, possess knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies, and be familiar with the Discrete Trial Instruction (DTI) approach to teaching and learning. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate proficiency in developing and implementing behavior intervention plans.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate an ability to use research-based principles of effective instruction, such as specific prompting protocols, discrete trial instruction (DTI), incidental teaching, and generalization training (for ABA sessions).
  • Create and implement small and large group lesson plans, as well as discrete trial/ABA curriculum.
  • Follow district processes and procedures in assessing students referred for special education services to determine eligibility and appropriate services.
  • Participate in Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings.
  • Design individualized education plans appropriate to meet the learning needs of students.
  • Conduct thorough assessments.
  • Provide necessary documentation and data to validate student progress toward goals and objectives.
  • Maintain and update special education records as required by district, state, and federal agencies.
  • Ensure confidentiality of special education records.
  • Implement behavior management programs to address behavior challenges and increase appropriate student behavior.
  • Coordinate the efforts and services of support personnel (BCBA, OT, PT, Speech/Language Pathologists, etc.) to assist students with special needs, collaborate on programming, and follow protocols designed by itinerant service staff.
  • Participate in professional development activities to develop specialized skills.
  • Establish positive working relationships with parents, teachers, educational assistants, and administrative personnel.
  • Train, plan for, and oversee classroom-based paraprofessionals.
  • Maintain professional and committed relationships with families.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Fulfill other duties as required by the district and building administration.

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIREMENTS

Candidates should have a CT State Teacher Certification in Special Education (065, 165, 265). A Bachelor’s degree in Special Education is required, and a Master’s degree in Special Education is preferred.

Applicants must possess strong behavior management skills and experience working with children with diverse educational, social, and emotional needs. A positive attitude, excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to establish effective rapport with students, families, and colleagues are essential. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to exceeding standards of professional and ethical practices and responsibilities.
