As a Home Health Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), here’s a big-picture view of what you’ll do :

• Acts at the direction and under the supervision of the treating physical therapist and in accordance with the plan of care.
• Participates in the development and evaluation of the plan of care in partnership with the patient and caregivers.
• Assists the treating physical therapist in documenting the treatment and intervention, patient’s response to the treatment, a patient’s progress towards goals.
• Effectively communicates with other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team providing care to promote coordination of patient care and planning for discharge.
• Coach and educate patients and family on their plan of care, established goals, exercises and self-care

A few must-haves for Home Health Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) :

• Current licensure, registration, or certification as a Physical Therapist Assistant in CA
• Minimum of 6 months of physical therapy assistant experience, ideally in home healthcare
• CPR certification
• Knowledge of state and federal home health regulations
• Good clinical judgment, strong interpersonal skills, dexterity and compassion
