Position Summary: This position is 60% learning support and 40% classroom teaching. ISDenver teachers provide subject guidance to any class or group of students assigned, ensuring their holistic developmental needs are met personal, social, emotional, and academic. Learning support specialists provide additional support students i collaboration with multiple partners in the school.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Learning Support -
  • Ensure that students with learning and language differences are identified effectively through appropriate diagnostic and formative assessment and observation procedures and are referred for support according to the ISDenver System of Referral.
  • Plan and follow appropriate programs of intervention for individuals and groups of students as determined by their learning needs and differences.
  • Establish partnerships with target language, English, subject teachers, and specialists, acting in an advisory capacity or co-teaching as appropriate.Coordinate and develop Individual Learning Plans for students in collaboration with class/subject teachers,parents, and students as appropriate.
  • Initiate and participate in Student Support Team meetings to discuss individual students and their needs.
  • Keep accurate and timely records of all parent and colleague meetings regarding students in the Student Support register.
  • Conduct progress monitoring with fidelity and report student progress regularly.
  • Facilitate and promote positive relations between home and school.
  • Liaise regularly with Learning Support Director and Division Directors to ensure sharing of relevant information and to collaborate as necessary in direct intervention with students.
  • Liaise with outside agencies as necessary.
  • Share in the overall responsibility for the academic progress, personal development, health and safety, discipline, and well-being of all students.
  • Any other reasonable duties, as directed by the school administration.
Teaching -
  • Assume responsibility as the subject area teacher and/or as a co-teacher for one or more classes of assigned students, promoting the general progress and well being of individual students and of any class or group of students assigned, ensuring their holistic developmental needs are met personal, social, emotional, and academic.
    • Plan, prepare and teach high quality lessons following course objectives and outlines for course of study in line with current best practice, taking into account the international dimension of the school population and the ISDenver Learning Principles and curriculum guidelines, including DEIB-based Social and Emotional curriculum.
    • Challenge and inspire students by matching learning to the individual educational needs and learning styles of students in the classes or groups assigned.
    • Record student progress and attainment, giving timely, constructive, and developmentally appropriate oral and written feedback as outlined in ISDenver policies.
    • Maintain good order and discipline among the students, safeguarding their health and safety whenever they are authorized to be on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorized school activities elsewhere. Ensure an organized, supportive, and stimulating high-quality learning environment at all times.
    • Carry out all administrative and organizational tasks as required, including attendance records and supervision of students, following timings and ensuring that there is always a prompt start and end to lessons and recess times and that school policies and procedures are followed at all times.
    • Actively promote positive professional partnerships between home and school by providing frequent and timely communication on classroom activities and guidance and advice to parents on educational and social/emotional matters, discussing academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements throughout the year.
  • Manage and maintain the classroom in compliance with requirements of government regulations and ISDenver safety policies and procedures.
  • Outside the classroom
    • Lead class field trips, overnight trips, and/or other out-of-classroom experiences according to school policies and procedures
    • Participate fully in supervision duties (lunch/recess/etc.), staff meetings, parent meetings, workshops and various co-curricular, extra-curricular and PTO activities that promote the school's programs and reputation.
  • Actively collaborate within and across academic departments and programs to ensure high standards of learning and teaching across the curriculum to create a sense of cohesion and spirit within the team, appropriately support learners, and promote successful transition for all students.
  • As appropriate (generally in ECE), work in close collaboration with assigned Teaching Assistant(s), managing their workload and tasks so that student learning is prioritized and supported fully and appropriately during the school day.
  • Participate fully in the ISDenver Growth and Evaluation Process.
  • Actively participate in school-sponsored Professional Development (PD) workshops and training to remain current with best practice and support the School Strategic Plan.
  • Utilize a growth mindset towards professional growth.
  • Be prepared to share best practice with colleagues through opportunities such as team or co-teaching, peer observations, modeling and assisting with PD workshops.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in special education or certification in reading intervention; Master's degree preferred
  • Two years experience in teaching special education or reading intervention; five years experience preferred
  • Two years experience teaching English in the primary grades preferred
  • Training in the Orton-Gillingham approach to phonics instruction preferred
  • English proficiency with excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Level B2 required, C1 preferred (based on Common European Framework of References for Languages) or equivalent certification such as TOEFL or IETLS
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
  • Eagerness to engage with co-curricular, extra-curricular, school community, and PTO activities that promote the school's programs and reputation

  • Experience with or commitment to learning the International Baccalaureate Programme and commitment to delivering the ISDenver curriculum

  • Commitment to learning about and implementing DEIB practices in the classroom and school community
  • Lived experience in multicultural settings, including international work experience, and an appreciation and respect for all cultures
Location and Schedule: Expected work hours are 7:45am-3:45pm, M-F; you may have to work outside of these hours periodically. This job does not have remote work flexibility. All employees must be based in Denver, CO.
