Pay Range : $33-$35 per hour, plus benefits (exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience and location)
Location: Remote - USA
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the leadership of the Interpreting Services Manager, the Staff Interpreter in our VRI department is responsible for providing ASL interpreting services to individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in a variety of settings (healthcare, financial, business, and legal) and ensuring adherence to the Registry of Interpreter for the Deaf (RID) Professional Code of Conduct.
The Staff Interpreter must be adaptable, detail-oriented, and have the proven ability to handle confidential information appropriately. Strong interpersonal and outstanding customer service skills are required. Communicating effectively and working collaboratively with team members, external customers, and leadership in a remote work environment is also required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provide interpreting services using American Sign Language to individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Interpreting assignments may include VRI or in-person services for appointments, meetings, or events in a wide range of settings.
  • Interpret complex medical information between patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Professional Code of Conduct and maintain an advanced working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and how it pertains to the Deaf community.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Review and research professional literature, journals, etc., attend conferences, and workshops to maintain certification and stay current on best practices with an emphasis on continued education in the specialty fields of medical, mental health, and legal interpreting.
  • Ability to collaborate professionally with the team and contribute to a supportive remote work environment with positive and creative participation.
  • Work successfully and be able to problem-solve with minimal support/supervision.
  • Seek manager support for difficult interpreting situations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation to ensure timely renewal(s) of all required interpreting credentials.
  • Comply with policies and procedures as outlined by Interpretek.
  • Ensure Interpretek's values are represented in all interactions.

Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND SKILLS:
  • RID Certification required.
  • At least 1 year of recent post-certification work in a VRI/VRS and healthcare setting is required.
  • Specialized Interpreting credential(s) in healthcare, mental health, or legal strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge and documented professional development in medical terminology, health care systems, financial systems, and legal terminology as it relates to the healthcare field.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule to support business needs as required in a 24/7 x 365 setting.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of proficiency in computer and technology skills is strongly preferred, including Microsoft Office Suite of products.
  • Traditional, wired high-speed internet service provider (DSL, cable modem or fiber optics etc. required. Satellite, antenna or cellular not acceptable) with a minimum speed of 5 mpbs download and 3 mpbs upload. Ping less than 300 and, Jitter less than 30 ms. Direct connection to modem or router via ethernet cable preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate via email, and chat-based business solutions.
  • Multi-state licensing is required upon hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Certain coordinated finger, limb, or body movements must be performed routinely in the course of regular work. Extended standing or sitting required. Constant repetitive motion and mental processing may be required which could lead to fatigue.
