Interstate Power System’s is looking for Journeyman Field Power Generation Mechanic / Technician(s) for our Butler, Wisconsin location that specializes in generator repairs.

A Journeyman Power Generation Technician will be a resident expert within their assigned field. They will have the ability to work a job from start to finish independently from assignment.

Has expertise on all internal systems within their job scope. A Journeyman will mentor other employees by providing training and guidance on use of internal systems.

This individual will proactively identify improvements, responds in times of need, and makes themselves available to service team.

A Journeyman will have more than 5 years’ experience as a mechanic in the power generation industry.

A Power Generation Technician / Mechanic is responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing equipment used in generating electricity in combination with diesel engines.

Their duties include monitoring power generation systems, performing routine maintenance checks, troubleshooting technical issues, and implementing repairs as needed.

They ensure that power generation equipment operates efficiently and safely to meet energy demands. Additionally, they may be involved in upgrading systems to improve performance and implementing safety protocols.

Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in various conditions are essential for this role.

This is a field position; most repairs will be taking place at customers location.

Power Generation Technician / Mechanic Job Duties :

• Responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair on all makes of generators.
• Basic level knowledge of and / or experience with power generation products
• Completing preventative maintenance and repairs on generators or components at the customer site with minimal direction.
• Diagnose, repair, adjust, and modify all components of the generator, engine, and switch gear.
• Positive interface with service writers, foreman, parts department, and customers
• Keep paperwork updated and handed in upon completion.
• Meet requirements for certifications.
• Perform administrative duties as related to role.

Power Generation Technician / Mechanic Requirements :

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working with industrial power generation sets.
• Experience with diesel and natural gas engines, electrical switch gear, and automatic transfer switches
• Must have your own set of general tools.
• Be able to work with diagnostic computers for troubleshooting and repairs.
• Use computers for web-based training and repair order system.
• Must be physically able to lift and work with no restrictions.
• Clean driving record and the ability to pass a D.O.T. Physical

Ideal Power Generation Technician / Mechanic Candidate qualities :

• Technical degree or certification a plus
• Positive attitude and excellent customer relationship skills
• Basic level knowledge of and / or experience with power generation products
• The ability to set goals and accomplish them.
• The desire to take advantage of certification opportunities to have the most updated product training.
• Solid written and verbal communication skills
• Strong work ethic and the ability to work with little supervision.
