Call Questions

  • Project overview?: Sushmitha has 3 initiatives that are going on across Wealth Management BU, in a horizontal role. She heads Dev Sec Ops and Compliance and will work on cloud in some capacity and a BU champion. Dev Sec Ops mostly set up pipelines, making sure they are continuously monitoring and integrating and looking at dashboards, bringing best standards in terms of deployment cycle times, etc. There is a security piece where they need help with some vulnerabilities that come with knowing python and SQL. She has a compliance piece where they are looking at MS solution that needs Python and SQL. This is all interconnected but the goal for the team and Northern Trust is to move to cloud and being compliant. She is stitching together compliance with cloud journey because their current state is PCF and still needs to maintain PCF compliance with cloud compliance. The cloud piece is being taken care of enterprise team but they need engineer who can move and understand the on prem to cloud. Needs exposure to PCF, and when moving to cloud, needs to know how to set up the cloud stuff from an enterprise network. These initiatives are all tightly coupled and this engineer that has worked on the entire lifecycle will be able to connect the dots on from the job requirements.
  • Saw on the JD there was Python, SQL, Terraform. Terraform can be used to configure and build, is it required?- Yes, key for all templates to build for transformation to cloud.
  • Is this a software developer, are they building something out specifically or setting up environment for the move to Azure Cloud?- They are building on PCF for compliance, and will build terraform templates for cloud journey.
  • Ideal person would have strong Python SQL/developer, worked on setting up Azure cloud using terraform, and moving from on prem to cloud?- Yes. If they didn t work on PCF, but have moved to the cloud that s great, but the problem is they would need someone else to help connect the dots.
  • On cloud journey are you foreseeing this resource more participating in provisioning the infrastructure, and hosting environment on Azure, is it more application migration, migrating that on prem codes? Yes, sitting more on the application side with data pulls API s. If someone has Data bricks pipeline would be an added advantage.
  • Data bricks being used for data transformations?- Yes, her team handles end to end. Her team is a share solution across wealth management. Doesn t want her team to be an advisory role, but sometimes has to be. Wants someone who can do it rather than advise, but would have to been able to do it to even at advise. HM is hands on in her team, other than coding. Hiring manager is very technical.
  • Github is used for setting up automated workflows?- Yes, her team is set up most automated pipelines across wealth management. Will deploy templates, set them up, and supporting them for deployment issues. Wants the teams to be self-servicing rather than depending on her team. Started with knowledge sharing, and is hoping to hand it over entirely. Her team is very technical, has done majority of work, and has done a lot of added value to the cloud.
  • Do you have a technical BA already to help gather those requirements or will this candidate be responsible?- Depends, HM takes over the requirements as well as another member, she takes the info and breaks it down into different work items in ADO with a clear roadmap, but gives them smaller portions of the project to execute. She will delegate depending on their experience.
  • Responsible for PI builds web scraping?- Not anticipating this now, and if they are not skilled at I, she is okay with giving ramp up time. If she needs to hire a specific resource for this she will.
  • How many years of experience are they looking for in a candidate for this role?- No number, will look at skillset. If not up to mark on Python but have the drive to learn and are targeted on right business case and have practiced solutions. Baseline 5-6 years would probably be a good fit, but if they only have 2 years of experience and can do this, then she has happy to bring them on.
  • Can she specify which front-end technologies or frameworks the candidate should be familiar with alongside their back end and cloud expertise? - If they worked as a Full Stack Developer, would have worked on React, but don t think its mandatory at this point because they are not doing front end development. But if it is needed later, she has people who can jump on this.
  • Will the candidate need to be prepared for hands-on coding during the interview?- Depends, giving use cases and asking them to code. Will make this a mandatory moving forward.
  • SQL piece, automating data validating roles, SQL store procedures?- Looking at this because when she thinks full stack, they only do react or back end. Even if not hands on, should be able to understand what a SQL queries does. Her team looks at a lot of dashboarding.Built dashboard in 6 months across wealth management in all 64 teams. Does a lot of reporting, and that needs Python and SQL skillset.
  • Front end vs back end?- Not looking for a lot of front end as long as they understand what a tech person is saying. Back end-need to be able to query stuff, and pull data from tables and that is for reporting and dashboards which they use across every initiative she has. If they are good at cloud 40/50% awareness, she is happy to train. Will give use cases on back end.
  • Education?- Open with skillset, not even experience. Wants people to be interested in what they are doing, and passionate and able to take on what is put on their plate.
