INVO Healthcare is Hiring a Special education teacher Near Old Forge, PA

INVO is seeking a Special Education Teacher for an ASD elementary classroom in Old Forge PA. The teacher will develop and implement individualized educational programs (IEPs) that address the unique learning, behavioral, and social needs of students with autism.

This role involves creating a structured, nurturing, and supportive classroom environment that promotes academic growth, social skills development, and independent functioning.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Individualized Instruction and IEP Development :
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the specific needs of each student with autism.
  • Provide direct instruction in academic subjects, communication, social skills, and life skills, using evidence-based practices for students with ASD.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, ensuring access to the general education curriculum when appropriate.
  • Regularly assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies to achieve IEP goals.
  • Classroom Environment and Management :
  • Create a structured and predictable classroom environment that supports the needs of students with autism.
  • Implement positive behavior support strategies and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) to manage and improve student behavior.
  • Use visual supports, schedules, and other tools to enhance student understanding and engagement.
  • Foster a classroom culture of respect, inclusion, and independence.
  • Social Skills and Communication Development :
  • Teach and reinforce social skills, communication strategies, and self-regulation techniques tailored to each student’s needs.
  • Implement and adapt communication systems, such as Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, as needed.
  • Provide opportunities for students to practice social interactions and communication in both structured and natural settings.
  • Collaboration and Communication :
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other related service providers to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  • Communicate regularly with parents / guardians to provide updates on student progress, discuss concerns, and involve them in the educational process.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including IEP meetings, to plan and review student programs and services.
  • Work with outside agencies and community resources to provide additional support for students and families.
  • Professional Development :
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in autism education and special education law.
  • Share knowledge and effective strategies with colleagues to enhance the overall capacity of the school to support students with autism.
  • Reflect on and refine instructional practices to improve student outcomes continuously.
  • Compliance and Documentation :
  • Ensure that all teaching practices and interventions comply with state and federal special education laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation in a timely manner.

Qualifications :

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Autism Education, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certification : Pennsylvania teaching certification in Special Education required; certification in Autism Spectrum Disorder or a related area preferred.
  • Experience : Previous experience working with students with autism, particularly in an elementary school setting, is preferred.
  • Skills :
  • Strong understanding of autism spectrum disorder and evidence-based instructional strategies for students with ASD.
  • Ability to create and implement effective IEPs and BIPs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting the academic and social development of students with autism.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and data management systems.

Physical Demands :

  • Ability to stand, walk, and engage with students for extended periods.
  • Ability to respond quickly to behavioral incidents or emergencies.
  • Ability to lift and move classroom materials and equipment as needed.

Working Conditions :

  • Work is performed in a classroom setting within an elementary school environment.
  • The role may involve managing challenging behaviors and providing support to students with diverse needs.
