Job Description

Location: Ames, Iowa

Shift Requirements: Days, Monday through Friday, travel required.

As aRoadside Design Specialist 2 in the Office of design you will successfully help to enhance Iowa's roadsides, by coordinating the annual herbicide contracts and purchase, providing technical expertise about herbicides and vegetation management, developing roadside landscape projects, and working with IA DOT staff to administer projects.

With your commitment to excellence and desire to learn, you will be responsible for identifying the needs of IA DOT staff statewide, conducting field work and inspections, producing herbicide contracts, producing landscape construction plans, and following projects from conception through construction to guarantee their success.

This position requires strong communication skills, knowledge and experience working with Iowa's native plant communities, knowledge of erosion control strategies, landscape design, and the ability to manage projects in a timely manner. You will provide technical assistance to internal staff, consultant and contractors while utilizing CADD and other advanced software applications.

Special Requirements:

Requires valid Driver's License.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

All of the following (1 and 2):

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in agronomy, landscape architecture, engineering, horticulture, or forestry; and

A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in agronomy, landscape architecture, engineering, horticulture, or forestry equals one year of full-time experience in professional roadside development, site plan development, pollution prevention plan development, or watershed management.

OR

employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state classified service that includes the equivalent of 18 months of full time experience as a Roadside Development Specialist 1 shall be considered as qualifying.
