Iowa State University Foundation Careers is Hiring a Director of Data Governance Near Ames, IA

The director of data governance will inform the overall vision and drive execution of data management strategies with agile evolution of policies, procedures, and infrastructure required to run the foundation’s data governance in an optimal state. This position will partner with business and technology leaders to establish data governance, data quality controls, and ensure data is complete, accurate, and easily accessible by business units.

Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Create and maintain a data governance system that manages information as an enterprise asset, developing polices to manage risks, supporting the acquisition of new data and integration with existing data points, and ensuring data quality and required security.
  • Support data governance committee development and ongoing activities in advancing its charge.
  • Develop roadmap for business data needs and oversee and maintain the overall management of operational data assets required for reporting and advanced analytics.
  • Collaborate with external partners to develop infrastructure for easier access of data housed within external partners infrastructure.
  • Recommend solutions to stay abreast of current trends, technologies, and best practices in both data analytics and industry.
  • Develop and implement a data inventory of current systems and data, prioritizing the needs of critical data.
  • Assist in creating business plan and budget each fiscal year and monitor on a quarterly basis to ensure goals/budget are being met.

Qualifications

Education & Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
  • 4 years of professional experience related to employment area, preferably in a data governance or data management role.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Must possess a deep understanding of data governance programs and processes.
  • Experience working across structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
  • Demonstrated strengths in master data management concepts (MDM).
  • Demonstrated experience with data management software.
  • Familiarity with SQL or similar query languages.
  • Strong project management and planning skills and experience.
  • Well-developed decision making and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Must be able to analyze long term projects involving various alternatives and make decisions based on findings.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team is essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, utilizing a consultive approach in a team environment.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience working with AI technology in the big data space is preferred.
  • Must be willing to take initiative, be results-oriented, organized, and possess attention to detail.
  • Experience using Agile methodologies in project management is preferred.
