SummaryJob Description:
Are you looking for the opportunity to have a fully remote position working with a Grants and Research team? The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is seeking a qualified candidate for the Assistant Director of Grants. In this role the candidate has the opportunity to work fully remote or choose a hybrid or in office schedule that works for them.
DutiesThe Assistant Director of Grants will be responsible for management of the Pre-award team, promoting Research and Development activities and providing support for Graduate students in the CVM. Examples of these duties are below:
  • Directs and supervises the College of Veterinary Med (CVM) Grant and Research Team in providing pre-award grant and contract administrative services to CVM service units.
  • Ensures that the CVM Team operates in compliance with university, local, state, federal, and other funding agency regulations.
  • Reviews proposals to confirm budgets and ensure compliance.
  • Assist with the planning, development, modification, and implementation of research-related programs including USDA Capacity Grants and training grants.
  • Establishes and implements policies, procedures and programs for the CVM in the realm of research development and pre-award services.
  • Providing support for the veterinary summer scholars programs.
  • Providing support for graduate students, concurrent DVM/PhD students and veterinary summer research scholars.
  • Lead annual and intermittent reporting of research activities necessary for veterinary accreditation.
  • Collect and analyze financial, grant, and faculty complex data
Example of Duties
  • Possesses signature authority for legally binding contracts and grants with project sponsors.
  • Reviews terms and conditions of contracts and grants proposed by external funding agencies.
  • Negotiates contract language.
  • Serves as a resource to the University contracts and grant administrators.
  • Interprets terms and conditions of award documents.
  • Prepares, negotiates and executes subcontracts.
  • Reviews proposals to confirm budgets and ensure compliance.
  • Supervises professional and support staff for grant and contract administration.

  • Understands linkage between daily activities and achievement of annual objectives of department/work unit and explains to direct reports
  • Focus on ISU’s mission and meeting department or work unit goals
  • Supervises a small department or work team
  • Often is a working supervisor with direct, previous experience performing work of those supervised
  • Has full management responsibility for direct reports, specifically the authority to hire, fire, and counsel; may share part of responsibility with higher level management
  • Requests approval for financial actions beyond a limited scope per policy
