Position Summary The Director of New Market Selection and Development is a high-impact leadership position reporting directly to the CEO of a rapidly growing and expanding company. In this role, you will design the criteria and lead company-wide efforts that lead to the selection of new markets. You will operationalize the internal diligence process across key function areas, including engineering, design, construction, marketing, operations and finance. You will assess and incubate new market opportunities through a mix of industry and local relationships, gaining on-the-ground knowledge by establishing dialog with local leaders, elected officials and government bodies. In this highly impactful role - speed to market, maximizing return on capital, and assessing both existing and emerging competition are important elements to success. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design the criteria for assessing and ranking new market expansion opportunities
Conduct market research that will be used for assessing and ranking new market opportunities, including competition, housing density, construction costs, and proximity to existing networks
Work closely with the GIS and marketing teams to gather and analyze this market data
Guide the senior management team through the new market selection process and manage the ongoing cadence of activity through meetings and ongoing reporting.
Track and drive closure to open action items, ensuring consistent movement through the market selection process and related funnel.
Regularly monitor changes in market conditions that would impact the new market selection process by proactively tracking public information and staying in close contact with government and local leaders
Required Qualifications
General understanding of the telecommunications services landscape, including high-speed internet, voice, video, and data networking services
General understanding of designing and constructing fiber telecommunications networks (XGS-PON technology is a plus)
Experience championing growth strategies for capital-intensive utility businesses
Ability to open doors and lead discussions with municipal governments, local leaders, and other potential partners
Experience working with senior leadership teams to drive decision making consensus and alignment
Effective project management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines by aligning and coordinating with cross-functional leaders
Quantitative analysis skills that will be used to make strategic business decisions
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
At least 5 years of telecommunications experience
College degree required (MBA preferred)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Quantitative analysis experience
Proven track record of strategic decision-making
Ability to navigate complex business scenarios and negotiate favorable outcomes
Ability to cultivate and manage strong relationships with partners and stakeholders. Ability to effectively influence and guide teams to success
Proficient in Microsoft 365 Suite
