About the role

IQE is seeking an innovative self-starter to join the Wafer Characterisation engineering team as a Yield Engineer. In this role, you would work alongside a team of engineers that characterize wafer surfaces and investigate the various sources of different defect types.

This engineering team will work with internal and external customers to engineer solutions for challenging defect-related manufacturing and integration problems, as part of a larger effort to continuously improve quality and yield, working closely with operations to ensure and maintain tool health within the factory.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ownership of assigned yield improvement projects including defect source investigation, classification and trend monitoring.
  • Design and execution of defect reduction projects and root cause identification activities
  • Data mining and analysis of defectivity data to understand trends and assess root cause.
  • Understanding of other in-line metrology tools such as Lehighton, Bow & Warp, Mobility Mapper, Filmetrics, etc.
  • Participation in and potentially leadership of cross functional team meetings with process, equipment and operations.
  • Communication with internal and external customers as defect subject matter expert.
  • Provide support for site and IQE Group to achieve yield and quality objectives through targeted defect density engineering
  • Development of strategies and tactical plans for overall defect reduction
  • Establishment of systems and procedures to quickly flag out-of-control situations and prevent quality excursions and escapes
  • Collaboration with process engineering to tune epi process to improve defectivity
  • Design experiments to pinpoint root cause.
  • Apply characterization and failure analysis procedures to identify the failure location and the root causes (troubleshooting capability)
  • Maintain metrology tools in fab including PM’s, troubleshooting and repair
  • Assist with material characterization and device processing when needed

About you

  • B.S or M.S Engineering Degree.
  • 2 years of hands-on process integration and yield improvement experience, preferably at a high-volume wafer fab.
  • Fluency with Fault Detection and Classification and Statistical Process Control
  • Equipment Engineering experience OR vendor equipment experience such Veeco, Aixtron, Camtek, Nanotronics, KLA.
  • Experience with analytical visualization tools.
  • Familiar with using scatter, bar, line charts to convey statistical summaries to business stakeholders.
  • Experience in Design of experiments, statistical analysis, 8D problem solving and continuous improvement of defect and process performance
  • Fundamental understanding of statistical techniques (multi-variate analysis, ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis).
  • Understanding of characterization and FA techniques
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, initiation, & troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in project management & application of six-sigma and/or lean manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications and reporting skill (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with JMP, Python, SQL, Spotfire for data analysis is a plus.
  • Working understanding of the epi process and associated equipment is highly desirable.
