JOB SUMMARY

The Administrative Director of the Graduate Medical Education Program is responsible for providing leadership, operational and financial management of the graduate medical education department and organizations accredited/non-accredited residency/fellowship training programs and special projects as assigned by the Vice President of Medical Affairs

The Director is a key member of the Graduate Medical Education leadership team, and the position requires a comprehensive and detailed understanding of national accreditation policies, educational administration, and hospital policies, as well as a high degree of initiative and independent judgment. The Director will operate within the framework of lifelong learning through collaborative scholarship, innovative educational excellence, and learner-centered curricula.

The Director will coordinate various administrative committees such as the GMEC, Clinical Competency Committees and the Program Evaluation Committees. This position will plan and orchestrate the recruitment of residents, will have the oversight of all medical residency and fellowship program coordinators, will develop projects, analyze administrative workflow, maintain databases and GME web content, communicate with faculty and trainees regarding items of significance, and manage internal and external program relations. 

Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the overall graduate medical education program and administrative activities, including fiscal, material, and human resource management. Maintains open communication with all staff to promote improvement in performance. This position requires a sound knowledge of graduate medical education and exceptional leadership abilities.

Oversees/manages the program coordinators and support staff. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensures all accreditation requirements are maintained for residency, fellowship, and internship programs.
  • Provide program support for the development and improvement of GME programs and assist with securing resources to meet the mission, vision and goals of the program and institution.
  • Serve as point of contact and liaison for the internal and external contacts including ACGME, Sponsoring Institution, coordinators and staff on matters affecting graduate medical education and the office of graduate medical education.
  • Provide oversight for the evaluation process, completeness and timeliness of evaluation required of future residents, clinical faculty, and clinical sites.
  • Assist in recruitment and credentialing of clinical sites and physicians and ensure that faculty and sites are in compliance with all regulatory and governmental policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Coordinate and direct special projects as assigned by the DIO/Program Directors.
  • Other duties as assigned by the DIO or their designee.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Demonstrate experience, knowledge, skill, and leadership in all aspects of pre-doctoral and post-doctoral medical education.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and versatility in the evaluation and implementation of GME programs, with a willingness and ability to adapt to changing rules and regulations that govern their operation and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) rules and regulations 
  • Possess skills for providing administrative oversight, direction, leadership, and motivation for faculty and staff.
  • Outstanding organizational and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with confidential material with an attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team-based multi-cultural environment with leadership, peers, and full-time and community-based faculty.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrate effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree or work toward completion preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in graduate medical education.
  • ACGME graduate medical education accreditation experience.
  • Demonstrate success in working with faculty, administrators, staff, residents, and students within a higher education learning community.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively in written and oral communication and work collaboratively in complex interdisciplinary and interprofessional settings.
  • Demonstrate ability to engage, support and lead diverse groups.
