ITG Communications is Hiring an Equipment Operator (Locator) Near Chaska, MN

The Equipment Operator perform a variety of tasks, operating various types of equipment primarily related to the construction of telecommunications and a Fiber-to-the Home (FttH) Network. This position will operate heavy to light excavation equipment as well as place and bury fiber pathways, including operation of horizontal/directional drill rigs, locating equipment and product support equipment.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities: • Operates excavation equipment for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable. • Prepares construction sites for building, demolition, or excavation. • Transports tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites. • Responsible for avoiding existing cables and digging in accordance with blueprints and designated plans. • Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment. • Setup and cleanup of work site including traffic and pedestrian control. • Inspects and fuels vehicle prior to beginning shift. • Performs routine maintenance and repairs. • Reads utility locates and coordinating day lighting of these facilities. • Ensures all applicable permits and locates are complete and on site. • Inspects the work that is in progress to ensure that the workmanship conforms to specifications. • Operates construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications. • Ensuring sites are kept clean and safe.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and at least one (1) year experience. Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred. • On-the-job training offered. Must be available to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.

Physical Requirements • Ability to stand, walk, sit • Ability to use hands to handle or feet • Ability to reach with hands and arms • Ability to climb and balance • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, and up to 100 lbs as needed • Ability to maintain all safety expectations • Works outdoors for extended periods • Exposed to extreme weather conditions • Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery • Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains

Key Competencies, Skills, Abilities:

Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and capabilities.

Ability to read building plans related to structural concrete and land grades.

Excellent mechanical skills.

Ability to follow instructions.

Ability to work as a team.

Oral communication skills.
