Classification: Full-time, salaried

Salary: $97,750 - $135,000

Effective: August 1, 2024

Location: Based in New York City, with schedule and work site to be determined with input from the Executive Director

About Us:

Circles of Support is a program that works within the reentry landscape in New York City to center the voices of justice-impacted individuals.

Most of these individuals enter Circles of Support through its flagship “Raising My Voice” programs, designed for those who have experienced incarceration and their loved ones. Raising My Voice is a 7-week intensive training program in which participants learn communication and feedback skills and learn how to craft the story of their own lives in a safe, confidential, and collaborative environment. This place for self-expression can be especially rich for those who have long had their story told for them—by people such as social workers, school principals, judges, or parole officers. Circles of Support is now also implementing a companion program, “Youth Speak,” specifically for youth and young people who are justice-involved.

Both of these programs facilitate the creation of a transformative peer network of trust and support. With the support of Circles of Support, many alumni continue to gather and support each other well after their Raising My Voice cohort has formally ended.

Circles of Support also works through a speakers’ bureau, connecting alumni who would like to share their stories publicly with audiences who would like to listen. Circles of Support thereby works to amplify the voices of individuals and their families impacted by the criminal justice system, whose voices often go unheard.

Role Overview:

The Director of Circles of Support will continue to support and strengthen the ongoing work of Raising My Voice, Youth Speak, and their alumni. The director will also explore and pursue opportunities to help more people benefit from these programs and lead the program into greater health, growth, and impact - both internally and externally. Though Circles of Support is a small program, its work is magnified through its partnership with houses of worship, non-profit organizations, and others working in the field of reentry. The director will be entrepreneurial and humble, guiding the program in constant consultation with justice-impacted alumni and partners.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the New York City reentry landscape, experience with justice-impacted individuals, and excellent communication and organizational skills. Necessary character traits include trustworthiness, humility, and empathy, along with an entrepreneurial mindset and creative problem-solving abilities. The candidate should have at least a Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of leadership experience (paid or unpaid) or master’s degree and 6 years of leadership experience.
