Established in 2000, Jackson has quickly become a regional general contractor employed by local, state, and federal agencies as well as private clients. Summary of Responsibilities

The Controller is responsible for the day to day operations of the accounting department. Responsible for preparing financial reports in addition to maintaining the company’s system of accounting record, the Controller establishes and maintains a comprehensive set of controls to ensures that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

Essential Duties/Functions 

  • Lead the daily functions of the accounting department including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, job costing, and equipment accounting. Responsible for overseeing and reviewing payroll
  • Ensuring accuracy of overall reporting and consistency with internal and external requirements
  • Verifying completeness and accuracy of information and locating and resolving discrepancies
  • Ensuring existence of adequate controls to protect the company against fraud, theft and other business risks
  • Oversee and/or process all job cost setups: to include contract amounts in accounts receivable, job cost budgets, quantities, and units of measure if applicable; being consistent, accurate, timely and perform as quality control to ensure consistent procedures are being followed by project management for job
  • Assist project managers and engineers with developing correct labor analysis reports; maintain each job’s report timely and accurately.
  • Record accurate and timely cost reclassifications provided by project
  • Supervise and maintain an organized system of tracking outstanding subcontract & purchase order
  • Oversee the set-up of subcontracts and purchase orders in accounting system and maintain change order
  • Communicate with project management regarding codes and cost types used on miscellaneous invoices and time
  • Serve as a positive team member, appropriate backup, trainer and mentor (as applicable) to other members of the accounting
  • Work closely with team members in a courteous and professional manner, which facilitates a cooperative and efficient working
  • Work closely with other department heads, project managers and executive leadership
  • Completing other duties as assigned

Other Requirements

  • Handle all interactions with coworkers, subcontractors, clients, the public, etc. in a manner designed to build and maintain long term
  • Go the extra mile to ensure the project is successful and with complete satisfaction of the client by double checking all critical work deliverables to minimize
  • Complete all tasks with a pride of ownership
  • Never stop improving by initiating personal development strategies and suggestions for company-wide process improvements.
  • Implement solutions efficiently and effectively. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Self-motivation, punctuality and the ability to manage multiple

Experience/Skills Desired

  • 5 years’ experience in an accounting position
  • Four-year degree from accredited university in Finance, Accounting or similar
  • Construction industry experience preferred
  • Preferred experience with the following programs:
    • Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel

Experience/Skills Desired

  • CPA preferred
