Jackson County is Hiring a Transit Driver, Temporary, Part-Time Near Sylva, NC

JOB
This position provides safe, reliable, and dependable transportation for citizens. The employee performs routine maintenance and cleaning of vehicles.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Drives vans and buses to transport passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to a time schedule. Provides safe, reliable, efficient, and customer friendly transit services to all Jackson County residents. Completes and reports accurately documenting miles, fuel and route times. Conducts pre and post trip inspections of vehicles; report or correct any deficiencies. Maintains detailed trip logs and collect and records fares. Operates 2-way radios, computerized tablets, and hydraulic lifts. Pushes, pulls, and adjusts wheelchair positions on ramps, lifts, and inside vehicle. Follows all state and federal transit regulations.Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of vehicles. Monitors and corrects fuel and fluid levels of vehicles. Organizes routes. Attends safety and training classes. Ensures that passengers are greeted properly; provides information and assistance to passengers.Performs other related job duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of County and departmental policies and procedures.Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.Knowledge of the geography of the service area. Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing vehicular movements.Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.Skill in oral and written communication.Skill in using various small office equipment, to include a tablet.Skill in using two-way radios.Ability to operate a motor vehicle and hydraulic lift system.Ability to express ideas clearly and accurately, orally and in writing.
