Job Purpose

The Sr. Storage Engineer manages the design, monitoring and configuration of enterprise storage area network (SAN) and backup technology infrastructure to ensure optimal system storage availability and performance. The Sr. Engineer will provide expert input into the estimation, design and implementation of complex projects; ensuring data integrity processes are maintained and system backups/recovery operations are successfully executed. The Sr. Engineer understands the impact of the storage technology on other technologies and utilizes that knowledge to represent Jackson with both internal and external customers.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provides technical recommendations and assists in system design of large complex projects.

• Designs next-generation automation and applications for storage and backup technologies using Commvault and Metallic products.

• Architects and deploys Storage and backup technology solutions using Commvault and Metallic products.

• Manages large scale and/or technically complex projects and is responsible for the design and management of SAN infrastructure, including logical and physical layout.

• Designs and implements fast data backup and recovery solutions using storage array snaps.

• Researches, evaluates, recommends, and implements new technology initiatives.

• Manages projects within deadlines and provides weekly project status reports to management.

• Troubleshoots complex storage and SAN related issues and backup issues.

• Leads site reliability engineering projects, collaborating with leaders from other disciplines.

• Monitors and maintains server backup/recovery infrastructure.

• Analyzes data integrity processes, monitors service results, and diagnoses problems.

• Develops performance and capacity planning reports.

• Prepares documentation regarding processes, procedures, and problem resolution techniques.

• Pursues opportunities to improve and automate team procedures and systems performances.

• Analyzes performance of the environment and provides recommendations for improvement.

• Evaluates the storage and backup infrastructure to ensure disaster recovery readiness.

• Designs, tests, and maintains business continuity and disaster recovery plans for storage/backup administration.

• Provides technical leadership and oversight to Storage team members in our vendor organization.

Other Duties

• Participates in production incidents as needed.

• Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Advanced knowledge of various OS related functionality including, but not limited to Backups, Capacity Planning, Disaster Recovery, and File System Management.

• Expert knowledge and experience with various storage replication software, SAN switches, Storage Virtualization and storage management software/hardware.

• Ability to design and configure SAN infrastructures to latest industry standards.

• Expert knowledge of enterprise-type backup and recovery hardware/software solutions like Commvault and Metallic

• Working knowledge of SQL.

• Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills.

• Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent experience required.

• 5 years of experience working with enterprise storage arrays, backup/restore technologies (Commvault and Metallic), storage array snaps, data replication, deduplication, and SANs required.

• 2 years of experience with Storage Virtualization technologies required.

• 2 years of Unix experience preferred.

• Experience in data backup systems; Commvault and Metallic preferred.

• Experience with point in time copy technologies.
