Summary:The Quality Control Technician role is on the ReadyMix team. This position will be responsible for managing the quality of concrete produced at our ReadyMix plants, in the greater San Antonio and Corpus Christi areas. The position assists all levels of the operation in establishing and achieving quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Monitor Plant Batching Operations to ensure proper batching sequences as well as Batch procedures.
  • Perform field testing of concrete, including fresh and hardened properties along with air, slump, unit weight, and strength.
  • Report monthly, mix optimization, deficiency, in mix performance, and number of bids and submittals produced for each division. Maintains all records of materials used in production of concrete, evaluates and tests raw materials in accordance with ASTM standards to ensure minimization of product failure.
  • Maintains records of and tracks materials used in production of concrete, evaluates and tests raw materials in accordance with ASTM standards to ensure minimization of and help in the prevention of product failure. Minimizes this risk through the development of trend analysis and product performance records.
  • Evaluates product quality and performance to establish “Benchmarks” for products and raw materials.
  • Takes appropriate actions to correct material failures and implements processes and procedures to prevent future problems.
  • Monitoring and testing concrete performance during the placement phase to for early identity of issues in concrete performance problems at jobsite/projects.
  • Perform plant inspections for compliance with applicable Specifications and SOP's.
  • Performs any other tasks and duties as requested, directed, or assigned to support and improve the overall team operations.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Communicate and coordinate material test results to Quality Assurance Manager, Area Managers, and material vendors/suppliers to ensure timely resolution of material quality-related issues.
  • Communicates with dispatchers and other plant personnel on quality issues.
  • Manage Quality Control Activities, Sampling, and Testing at plants and in field.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft office products.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills must be methodical, accurate, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective analytical and decision-making skills
  • Able to work well in a fast-paced environment with strong time management skills.
  • The role will require multi-tasking and the ability to effectively resolve conflicts.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I or ability to obtain within 3 to 4 months of hire.
  • ACI Strength Testing Technician Certification or ability to obtain within an 8-month period.
Physical Requirements:
  • Required to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand up to 8-10 hours per day.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about the facility.
  • May be subject to sitting for long periods of time to perform job scope.
Work Environment:
  • Location of position: On Site
  • Background checks and drug tests required.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Work will generally be performed in an office environment.
  • May be exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, odors, fumes, and oils.
  • May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule.
