JCCs of North America is Hiring a Direct Support Professional ( Mentor ) Near Bridgewater, NJ

Full Time position available. IMMEDIATE OPENINGS. Competitive rate based on education and experience. Benefits include fitness membership at the JCC.

Candidate should be Compassionate, Caring, Dedicated and high energy to work with adults with special needs who are 21 and older. This is an Adult Intern/Training Program that provides direct support in a vocational and recreational setting. Mentor will be responsible for following structured programming which will include: vocational training, volunteering, recreational opportunities, activities of daily living skills training, providing supervision based on level of functioning (i.e. 1:1 to line of sight). Medication administration (as needed), documenting case notes, attending monthly staff meetings and fully participating in all activities with participants (i.e. cooking, cleaning, exercising, completing clerical duties, working with pre-school/senior programs, swimming, music therapy, arts and crafts etc.). We will offer specialized specific training that will provide staff with the knowledge and tools needed to perform their job responsibilities effectively and to provide the best supports and services to the people we serve.

The hours for the position are Monday - Friday, 8:45 AM - 4:00 PM. Background Check and Drug Screening Required. Covid-19 Vaccine or weekly testing required.

As a Mentor you will support and enable people with special needs to:

* Complete skills training and obtain community-based volunteer, employment and recreational opportunities.

* Assess persons' interests and skills set for appropriate volunteer/ job placement.

* Develop occupational goals to person's skill level.

* Plan and implement trainings intended to develop a person's occupational skills, appropriate work habits and social skills.

What will a Mentor position offer you?

* Specialized specific trainings in the Behavioral Social Service field.

* Paid training for orientation and all pre-certification classes including CPR, First Aid, Preventing Abuse and Neglect, Medication Administration (as needed), Danielle's Law, Non-violent crisis intervention and Handle with Care.

Minimum Qualifications:

The IDEAL candidate will....

* Have a minimum of a High School Diploma/GED with prior experience working with Developmentally Disabled, Special Needs, Autism and behaviorally challenged population, or Bachelor's Degree.

* ABA Experience Preferred.

* Be Empathetic, Enthusiastic, Flexible, Open-minded, Creative and Patient.

* Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Have a level of comfort with hands on hygiene care (including toileting and showering).

* Be part of a larger organization and goal orientated.

* Have a valid driver's license.

THE SHIMON AND SARA BIRNBAUM JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER is a non-sectarian social service agency located on 14 acres on Talamini Road in Bridgewater. The JCC opened its doors to the community in December 1999 after years of planning and fundraising by a passionate group of local families that were driven to bring a JCC to our tri-county area.

The JCC is an agency of the Jewish Federation of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties and serves residents of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties with fitness, recreation, social, cultural and educational programming for the entire community. The JCC is the central address of our widely spread, diverse Jewish community and serves as coordinator and locale for many community-wide events and for programs of Jewish education & culture. Universal humanistic Jewish values and ethics serve as the foundation for our JCC. The JCC is governed by a Board of Directors that works with JCC Professional Staff to fulfill our mission of providing quality programs and services to meet the needs and wants of the Jewish and general communities.

The JCC facility includes heated indoor and outdoor salt-based pools. A dome enclosed outdoor pool is available in the off-season for year-round use. The JCC has a newly renovated and expanded fitness center, group fitness studio, spin studio and gymnasium. We offer more than 70 group fitness classes/week, including the internationally acclaimed Les Mills Fitness Program.
