PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position requires responsibility for laboratory logistics. Works under the supervision of the Chair and will be required to organize these laboratories as a whole. This person also will provide support to the Compounding Laboratory.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Manages a functioning laboratory that abides by all lab safety guidelines and continuously meets the requirements of laboratory inspection criteria.
• Assembles and operates lab apparatus, equipment, and sophisticated instrumentation.
• Evaluates, and interprets data obtained in accordance with methods requested.
• Assembles and operates lab apparatus, equipment, and sophisticated instrumentation.
• Maintains inventory: cleans, repairs and/or replaces laboratory materials and equipment.
• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the iSCORE values of Jefferson.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

• DNA isolation, PCR.
• Protein detection: assay, Western blot, developing.
• Immunofluorescence.
• Ensure compliance with biological and chemical safety guidelines.
• Formulate stock solutions.
• Autoclave supplies needed for sterile procedures.
• Record, compile, organize, evaluate, and interpret data obtained in accordance with methods requested.
• Handle data of a confidential nature.
• A positive professional attitude and prompt attention to all matters is expected at all times.
• Assist in the Pharmaceutical Science Compounding Laboratory
• Carry out tasks assigned by the department chair
• Assist in literature search
• Assist with categorizing supplies and maintaining equipment upkeep
• Small animal handling(frequency varies based on the projects)

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or other related scientific area required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of two years of laboratory experience is required.

Previous laboratory management experience preferred
