Description

Summary: Performs various painting and furniture refinishing services to maintain and repair the courthouse complex.
Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions: Performs skilled painting tasks in the application of paint to a variety of surfaces with brush or spray gun or other appropriate methods; applies paints, lacquers, varnishes, sealers, bleaches, fillers and stains to interiors and exteriors of the courthouse complex and to related furniture and equipment; refinishes sheetrock including taping, floating and sanding; mixes and matches paints and stains using correct proportions of pigment, base and thinner; hangs wallpaper; sandblasts various materials, equipment and facilities; cleans materials to be painted by using sandpaper, burners, scrapers and sanding machines; erects scaffolding, scaffold stages and ladder sets ups; cleans and maintains painting equipment and work area. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Other Job Functions: Stripes parking lots and paints signs; performs other job related duties as directed.

Education & Experience

Education & Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent; minimum 3 years in interior and exterior painting work at the journeyman level; completion of vocational courses in painting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of standard practices and techniques of the painting trade and of the various materials used in painting and finishing; knowledge of methods of preparing surfaces for painting or other methods of finishing; ability to perform painting work; ability to interpret and work from sketches, rough layouts, standard drawings and specifications; ability to work on ladders and high scaffolds; ability to read and write; basic math skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees; ability to operate airless sprayers, sand blasters, air compressors, drills and paint shakers; skill in the application of paints and other finishes, by brush, rollers or air gun; skill in mixing paints and in matching, blending, harmonizing, and contrasting colors, tints and shades; ability to texture drywall including taping, floating and surface preparation for final application.
