Summary: Performs various painting and furniture refinishing services to maintain and repair the courthouse complex.Essential Job Functions: Performs skilled painting tasks in the application of paint to a variety of surfaces with brush or spray gun or other appropriate methods; applies paints, lacquers, varnishes, sealers, bleaches, fillers and stains to interiors and exteriors of the courthouse complex and to related furniture and equipment; refinishes sheetrock including taping, floating and sanding; mixes and matches paints and stains using correct proportions of pigment, base and thinner; hangs wallpaper; sandblasts various materials, equipment and facilities; cleans materials to be painted by using sandpaper, burners, scrapers and sanding machines; erects scaffolding, scaffold stages and ladder sets ups; cleans and maintains painting equipment and work area. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Other Job Functions: Stripes parking lots and paints signs; performs other job related duties as directed.

This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required nor are all duties listed necessarily performed by any one employee so classified.Education & Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent; minimum 3 years in interior and exterior painting work at the journeyman level; completion of vocational courses in painting preferred. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of standard practices and techniques of the painting trade and of the various materials used in painting and finishing; knowledge of methods of preparing surfaces for painting or other methods of finishing; ability to perform painting work; ability to interpret and work from sketches, rough layouts, standard drawings and specifications; ability to work on ladders and high scaffolds; ability to read and write; basic math skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees; ability to operate airless sprayers, sand blasters, air compressors, drills and paint shakers; skill in the application of paints and other finishes, by brush, rollers or air gun; skill in mixing paints and in matching, blending, harmonizing, and contrasting colors, tints and shades; ability to texture drywall including taping, floating and surface preparation for final application.
