Jefferson Parish Schools is Hiring a Coordinator of Family and Social Services Near Harvey, LA

Position Description:

Reporting to the Director of Family and Social Services in the Student Support Unit, the Coordinator of Family and Social Services is responsible for the assignment, supervision, and evaluation of the Special Education Social Workers.


Scope of Responsibility:

  • Provides clinical and administrative supervision of the Mental Health Professionals.
  • Assists the Director of Family and Social Services in school assignments for Mental Health Professionals/
  • Completes employee observations and evaluates employee work products in order to complete Annual Performance evaluations for Mental Health Professionals.
  • Monitors electronic records for compliance with IEP and Medicaid and documentation of all services according to departmental procedures to ensure compliance with district, state and federal
  • Participates in IEP meetings when necessary.
  • Provides professional development for Mental Health Professionals.
  • Maintains records and information in a confidential manner.
  • Assists the Director of Family and Social Services in budget development and monitoring.
  • Ensures mental health support to the JPS Behavioral Support Team, Therapeutic program and Autism Team.
  • Practices within the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics of the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners.
  • Participates in monthly meetings with the Director of Family and Social Services and the Executive Director of Health and Relates Services to provide the status of this department.
  • Performs all other duties assigned by the Director of Family and Social Services.


Skills and Qualifications:

We seek detail-oriented, independent self-starters who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to raising student achievement and who have a record of high performance in challenging situations. Successful candidates will also demonstrate and/or possess:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university/college in a Mental Health Field.
  • Licensed by the Louisiana Board of Social Work Examiners as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker – Board Approved Clinical Supervisor and certification as a Qualified Social Worker as described in Bulletin 746 of the Louisiana Department of Education, or:
  • Licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Licensed Professional Counselors as a Licensed Professional Counselor – Supervisor and certification as a Qualified Mental Health Counselor as described in Bulletin 746 of the Louisiana Department of Education.
  • 3 years of progressively increasing experience in a clinical social work or counseling
  • Explicit knowledge of evidenced based therapeutic practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing professional development.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in multiple settings and have the ability to be an engaging change agent and culture-creator that can inspire and motivate.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to make
  • decisions and recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state laws, policies and regulations relevant to schools
  • Proficient in Google Suite.
  • Working knowledge telehealth platforms and experience in providing virtual mental health services
  • Experience in electronic mental health record systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other professionals to obtain positive solutions
  • Explicit knowledge of evidenced based practices. High degree of professionalism, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking.


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience as a supervisor of mental health professionals
  • Advanced degree
  • Bilingual


Physical Involvement:

Sitting is a required part of each work day. Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required. Ability to provide own transportation to schools, work locations and meeting sites. Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations.
