JOB SUMMARY:

The Safety Manager is responsible for instilling and promoting JHL’s Culture of Safety and the champion and leader in all aspects of safety management. An integral part of this is conducting dynamic and relevant safety training and safety mentoring to all levels of personnel in the organization. Training includes classroom-based training, hands on operated training, and field-based hazard analysis training. The Safety Manager’s role within JHL requires someone that can be a partner and a mentor for all levels of JHL personnel in Safety. Ultimately the Safety Manager is responsible for all Safety Programs, however empowering all personnel to own Safety all the time every day and to Do the Right Thing – ALWAYS is the ultimate benchmark of success.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Core Duties / Responsibilities:

• The Safety Manager provides overall supervision and support of all Safety Programs as applicable to the corporate office, JHL Jobsites, Trade Partners, and all field staff.
• Conduct and document monthly Comprehensive Safety Program Assessments on all assigned projects.
• Perform and document jobsite visits in the field to assist the project team in recognizing, evaluating, and controlling safety and/or industrial hygiene issues.
• Facilitate & ensure the use & efficacy of pre-job planning and start-up, including JHA’s, Written Silica Exposure Control Plans, Site-Specific Emergency Action Plans (EAP), etc.
• Provide technical assistance to all levels of personnel on technology utilized to facilitate the management of safety programs and protocols.
• Take Part in Safety, Trade Group and internal JHL Corporate subcommittees as requested and appropriate.
• Perform root-cause analysis for all injuries to personnel, and accidents involving company assets.
• Work with the insurance companies to manage workers comp claims, inquiries, and disputes.
• Monitor lost-time injuries and illnesses, completing First Reports of Injury in a timely manner.
• Lead project team in preparing for and hosting insurance carrier jobsite audits.
• Develop and manage the Weekly Toolbox Talks, working with field management to ensure that current and appropriate subjects are being addressed.
• Assess overall training needs for the Company, coordinate safety training sessions, and develop the annual training calendar for other safety trainings, including CPR and First Aid refreshers.

Education / Experience:

• Construction Safety Manager Experience 5 years (Required)
• Heavy Civil/Infrastructure experience 2 years (Preferred)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupation Health & Safety or Construction Management (Preferred)
• OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer (OSHA 10 & 30) (Preferred)
• CHST (minimum) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) (Preferred)
• Bilingual, English/Spanish (Preferred)

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

• Possess significant and extensive knowledge of safety management principles, as well as of required governmental reporting.
• Motivated self-starter with demonstrated ability to work both independently and with others in a team environment with the ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, manage time, and handle tight deadlines under minimal supervision.
• Display a respect for confidentiality and proven ability to navigate through difficult situations with employees, trade partners, clients, and OSHA inspectors.
• Exhibit a strong regard for organizing and prioritizing, as well as an ability to meet deadlines.
• Excellent written &verbal communication skills and technical aptitude with various software platforms.

TRAVEL:

Business travel is required, must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel statewide.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Project Office / Corporate Office: Up to 25%, of time will be spent in an office environment fulfilling the core job duties.

Field: Up to 75% of the time providing field support to crews. Exposure to high altitude, hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather: rain, heat, and loud noises.

Pay: $105,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
