We have an immediate need for a Chief Information Security Officer (“CISO”) to join our Denver office. The CISO is responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of the firm’s comprehensive information security program designed to protect firm and client information assets; and to comply with firm, client, and regulatory requirements. Layering long-term improvement initiatives and near-term risk-based priorities, the CISO will manage requirements for various stakeholders while championing continual improvement in information security.The CISO works collaboratively with General Counsel, COO, and CIO.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Governance
    • Organizing and driving processes to gain stakeholder perspectives related to information security and creating opportunities for organizational oversight, including development of key performance metrics
  • Risk Management
    • Facilitating identification, assessment, and treatment of risk, including educating stakeholders and building consensus on risk tolerance and prioritization of treatment plans
  • Compliance
    • Monitoring and driving compliance with applicable regulations and client requirements related to information security, including facilitating audit response and negotiating new requirements
  • Team Management
    • Curating the right skill, experience, and attitude to support the successful execution of the security program, including developing a culture of professional development and continuous improvement
  • Vendor Management
    • Instituting standards and processes to ensure firm vendors do not adversely affect the firm’s ability to protect information assets and meet compliance requirements. In addition, the CISO will ensure security-related vendors are cohesive with firm technology strategy and delivering appropriate services and value to the firm while meeting or exceeding agreed service levels
  • Security-Aware Culture
    • Promoting awareness of modern security threats, including building trusting relationships throughout the firm and developing a comprehensive training program to minimize risk through proper handling of sensitive information
  • Incident Management
    • Facilitating planning and workshops to support organizational preparedness for security incidents and other adverse events, including conducting business impact assessments, reviewing and enhancing written plans related to IR/BC/DR, coaching team members, and ensuring retention and availability of key service providers. In addition, this individual would serve as a key team member during real Incident Response
  • Security Operations
    • Ensuring effective execution of core security operations, including vulnerability management, event triage, incident response, threat hunting and analysis, and penetration testing
  • Service Management Integration
    • Influencing and embedding with existing processes such as employee and client onboarding, IT change management, and procurement to ensure security-related concerns are appropriately considered
Required and Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS in Information Systems, Cyber Security, or related discipline
  • Related certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA
  • Minimum of eight years management experience in a combination of information security and IT positions in a law firm or professional services firm
  • Strong collaborator and leader with the capacity to articulate, present, and implement a strategic security plan
  • Familiar with law firm professional standards governing data privacy, retention, and confidentiality
  • Experience leading information security risk assessments, including documenting findings and driving treatment plans
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, track, and manage meaningful performance metrics
  • Experience with evaluating and administering cyber security tools and services, including managed service providers
  • Demonstrated success building cross-functional processes that drive accountability and achieve desired outcomes
  • Familiar with common information security frameworks, such as ISO 27001 and NIST CSF
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to tailor presentations to specific audiences
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with ability to inform, educate, and influence others to support goals and initiatives
  • Must be able to travel on occasion
Compensation and Benefits: Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck offers a benefit package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401k match, profit sharing, and vacation/sick/personal time off. We are offering salary for this role, commensurate with experience ranging from $220,000 - $250,000 annually.
