About the role

We are looking for a highly-motivated and business-minded attorney to join as Privacy & Marketing Counsel on the Legal & Compliance team. In this role, you will work closely with a broad range of stakeholders, including sales, marketing, customer support, product, and engineering teams, as well as business leaders, and others in the legal and compliance team. You will provide key legal guidance to teams on privacy and data protection issues and, as a subject matter expert, you will help chart Rippling’s long term strategy for handling personal information in the course of marketing our products and services globally, and as it applies to any new and emerging uses, like Artificial Intelligence. You are a strategic thinker with impeccable judgment. You have a passion for providing creative, proactive, and pragmatic legal guidance, and are excited about building a world-class, highly efficient product counsel function at a rapidly growing company.

What you will do

• Provide risk-based advice and practical guidance to Ripling’s business units on compliance with privacy, data protection, and marketing laws globally
• Develop, implement, maintain privacy policies, practices, and processes to improve and scale Rippling’s privacy program
• Partner with the marketing operations team to develop and maintain a world-class marketing compliance program
• Collaborate cross-functionally on high-impact projects involving privacy analysis
• Monitor and analyze changes in privacy laws and regulations, and evaluate the impact of existing privacy laws, regulatory guidance and enforcement actions, and other related guidelines on new product features, development, and R&D often in spaces where there is no precedent or clear guidance
• Drive the privacy culture at Rippling, and creatively drive awareness of and strategically influence privacy and data protection issues

• 3 years of legal experience including some privacy/data protection experience
• Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) and membership in good standing in at least one state bar
• Entrepreneurial mindset, solution-oriented ethos, and ready to roll up your sleeves
• Excellent drafting and written and verbal communication skills with the ability to break down complex legal jargon into easy-to-understand and practical advice
• Passion for efficient processes
• Strong project management and organizational skills
• A team player who work cross-functionally and with a variety of stakeholders cooperatively and efficiently
• Sense of humor

The pay range for this role is:

144,000 - 240,000 USD per year (US San Francisco Bay Area)
