Within the context of this vision, the Office of Student Pathways (Pathways) under the Chief of Student Pathways focuses on the alignment of the school curriculum, instruction and operations to ensure that all students graduate with real-world skills and experience, a head start on life after high school and a strong plan to put them on a path to a rewarding career and long-term economic security. Pathways provides leadership and implementation support for the DOE Student Pathways to Economic Security Initiative.
The Senior Director of Employer Engagement is charged with developing and overseeing employer engagement systems, structures, strategies and initiatives that will undergird NYC Public Schools career connected learning approach across high schools and eventually across the K-12 system. The role will serve as a connector between the business community and employers across the city and schools to ensure career connected learning prepares students for strong careers and the future of work. The ideal candidate has proven experience building public-private constituencies, managing change in complex systems, team building and management and a demonstrated passion for local and youth talent development as a key ingredient towards building a more inclusive city.
The role will be vital in developing tiered and meaningful employer engagement structures to support a growing portfolio of career connected learning programs across the city. The role will ensure employer voice informs overall growth strategy while programming, curriculum, credentialing, work-based learning experiences are preparing students for careers in high-growth and high wage sectors. The Senior Director for Employer Engagement will oversee the arch of employer engagement- from business development to execution. The role will manage an employer engagement team charged with recruiting and managing high-profile employer partners and sourcing real time feedback on curriculum and skill development. The role will effectively coordinate resources, elevate best practices and maximize employer investment internally within NYC Public Schools and across other city agencies. The position will effectively manage relationships between schools, employer engagement structures and contracted industry sector-based intermediaries, governmental agencies and other community-based workforce related institutions. The role will help develop a strong internal employer engagement team within the career connected learning vertical that executes on goals and develops coherence across other teams including work-based learning, career and technical education and two Student Pathway pilots: FutureReady NYC and Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeships. Performs related work.
Reports to: Deputy Executive Director, Career Connected Learning
Direct Reports: Director of Industry Engagement and Industry Engagement Managers
Key Relationships: Will work closely with OSP leadership and related offices within NYC Public Schools, including the Superintendents, Legal Office, DIIT, Division of School Facilities, other relevant central DOE Offices; other City Agencies, including the Department of Youth and Community Development and Department of Small Business Services; The Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development, the Chair and Committee Chairs of the Advisory Council and the Chairs of the Industry Commissions.

Qualification Requirements:
Minimum
specialization applicable to the position, at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; or
Preferred
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
