Job Responsibilities
- Loan Underwriting: Evaluate and underwrite loan applications for home construction projects, ensuring compliance with company policies and guidelines.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct thorough risk assessments, analyzing financial statements, credit reports, property appraisals, and construction plans to determine the creditworthiness of borrowers.
- Documentation Review: Review and verify all loan documentation, including borrower financials, project budgets, contractor qualifications, and construction timelines.
- Decision Making: Make informed underwriting decisions and recommendations, balancing risk and reward while maintaining the company's lending standards.
- Portfolio Management: Monitor and manage a portfolio of construction loans, tracking project progress, draw requests, and borrower compliance with loan terms.
- Compliance: Ensure all loan transactions comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal company policies and procedures.
- Collaboration: Work closely with loan officers, borrowers, contractors, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth loan processing and project completion.
- Problem Resolution: Identify and resolve any issues or discrepancies that arise during the underwriting process, providing expert guidance and support.
- Training and Mentorship: Provide training and mentorship to junior underwriters and support staff, sharing expertise and promoting best practices.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed underwriting reports and present findings and recommendations to senior management.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in underwriting, with a focus on private lending and home construction financing.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in finance, business, real estate, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant certification (e.g., Certified Mortgage Banker, Certified Residential Underwriter) is a plus.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of private lending practices, construction loan underwriting, risk assessment, and relevant regulations.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make sound judgments.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and verifying loan documentation.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in loan origination systems, underwriting software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with the ability to manage multiple loans and projects simultaneously.
- Team Player: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, providing leadership and support as needed.
