JOB DESCRIPTION
Salary: State Salary schedule for teachers
Reports to: Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt
Supervises: N/a
Work Week Schedule: Monday – Friday; must be available some nights
Work Hours: 40
Months per year: 10
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accurately maintain records, as required by state or federal laws, and Edenton-Chowan Board of Education policies, and/or school-based requests, and adhere to confidentiality requirements of state and federal law.
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures and implementing Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies
Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and individual needs
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment through the utilization of relevant technology and instruction.
Participate in school-sponsored extracurricular activities, such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs, and student organizations, as directed.
Provide for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning
Effectively produces professionally written correspondence across various communication mediums, i.e. cell phone, computer
Performs other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Instructional Leadership:
- Assists in the establishment of goals and objectives for students
- Assist in the evaluation and implementation of the SCS for teaching area
- Creates, modifies and implements a curriculum map to assist with mastery of the SCS for all students
- Assists in report preparation as needed to make data driven decisions
- Assists students by providing academic support as needed
- Evaluate student progress and address individual student needs
Student Leadership:
- Implements developmentally appropriate student programs that will assist them with success in the 21st century
- Coordinates Job Shadowing or internship opportunities for students to supplement curricula and provide career building opportunities to students
- Participates in and promotes Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and/or the Association for Marketing Education (DECA) opportunities for students including recruitment events, activities, committee meetings, etc.
- Provides assistance with academic, career, personal/social skills, goals and plans for students
- Interprets and utilizes student data to support student progress
- Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom and other school environments
Public Relations:
- Provides appropriate information to school personnel regarding teaching area
- Assists in the communication between the school, teachers and parents to support student success
- Establishes a professional rapport with students, staff and community members to earn their respect
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, all school staff, students, parents and community members as needed
- Have excellent oral and written skills
Professional Growth:
- Participates in professional growth activities to enhance learning and teaching strategies
- Participates in school committees as appropriate
- Participates in all required meetings
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Prepare creative lessons that meet the stated SCS objectives and, as much as possible, meets the needs interests and abilities of students
- Maintain appropriate lesson plans and be able to produce written evidence of instructional preparation when requested by administration
- Consistently meet and instruct in assigned classes at the designated times
- Create a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables students to achieve learning objectives
- Provide for instruction that meets the needs of all students
- Establish clear objectives and goals for all lessons, units and activities and effectively communicate objectives to students and parents
- Plan for and utilize instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by ECPS policy and NCDPI
- Assist with the implementation of all policies and rules related to student conduct and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and equitable manner
- Makes provisions to be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
- Establish relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community members that reflect recognition and respect of every individual
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence
- Share responsibility for the total school program
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands- Light physical work required occasionally up to 25 pounds lifting; Frequent standing, walking, puling, carrying, reaching, handling and repetitive fine motor activities
Work Environment- Inside with some occasional outside environments; direct contact with staff, students, and parents
