About us

Since 1935, John K. Crosswell Home for Children has been providing care to children throughout SC that are unable to live with their family for various reasons. We are located on 28 acres in downtown Sumter with three residential cottages, providing a safe and secure, home-like Christian environment. Our foster care program provides qualified foster parents with the training, tools, and support they need to make a difference in the lives of children.

Our organization is seeking a Foster Home Coordinator to be responsible for supporting the maintenance of the Child Placing Agency status and shall support the program to expand the number of Christian foster families licensed through Crosswell Home and to provide the necessary support for effective retention of currently licensed families.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in social work or other related areas of study and two years of experience in the management or supervision of child care personnel, a child care program and/or a closely related field; or a Bachelor's degree in social work or other related areas of study and three years of experience in the management or supervision of child care personnel, a child care program or a closely related field. Closely related fields acceptable in meeting these qualifications include social work, counseling, teaching, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, nursing, and recreational therapy.
  • Certification as a South Carolina Certified Adoption Specialist required or home study experience that would meet the CAI requirements within 30 days of hire.
  • Will have satisfactory criminal history and background check determination. (Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check, Sex Offenders Registry check, Motor Vehicle Registration check and a satisfactory determination or preliminary records check application.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal relationship and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of best practice programs in faith-based and resource oriented foster care programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Development and maintenance of a licensing process to ensure that the Child Placing Agency complies with all federal, state, and organizational regulations and policies
  • Ensure that foster family calls are screened, logged, and referred as appropriate
  • Facilitate orientation and interview with prospective foster families
  • Ensure that foster family applications are processed within required timeframes (references, SLED, CPS check, medicals, fingerprinting, inspections by the Fire Marshal and Department of Health)
  • Ensure that each licensed home is regularly in compliance with licensing and agency procedures
  • Ensure the accuracy of documentation in the resource foster care program records to effectively demonstrate compliance with all regulatory expectations, and satisfactory licensing inspections
  • Support the work of the department to effectively recruit foster parents including occasional representation of the Child Placing Agency at recruiting events.
  • Ensure that foster parents feel supported and that workers are serving as advocates for the children
  • Ensure that children in care receive adequate services
  • Develop working relationships with DSS, families, and foster children
  • Work with the Foster Care Director to establish desired outcomes and evaluate ministry results against
  • Established goals and objectives
  • Development and supervision of assigned Crosswell Home Foster Care personnel.
  • Provide spiritual leadership to assigned staff, families, and children in care by both program and personal example, giving attention to personal soul-winning and discipleship.
  • Set performance standards, provide direct supervision and guidance, and ensure appropriate professional growth opportunities for all personnel who report to you.
  • Support the maintenance of an up-to-date policy and procedures manual(s) that all personnel and volunteers have easy access to
  • Ensure an effective education and an appropriate support system for each child cared for
  • Ensure effective recruitment, training, recognition, and supervision of assigned volunteers.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $38,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
