Johns Hopkins Medicine International (JHI) is a healthcare services organization created to further the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, namely, to improve the health of the global community by setting the standard of excellence in medical education, research, and clinical care. JHI has developed a series of products and services to assist public and private sector clients raise the standard of care at medical institutions abroad. Among those products and services include hospital management support, clinical care, medical program development, education, training, quality assurance, patient safety, international accreditation, and other similar services.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer of Johns Hopkins Medicine International, this position is accountable for both the strategic and operational activities of international and corporate clinical programs and related integrated service lines across JHM. This role plans, directs, organizes, controls and evaluates the implementation of strategic operational plans that support JHI's mission and also aligns with Johns Hopkins Medicine and Johns Hopkins Health System to ensure quality patient care and services. In addition, this role partners with the COO on episodic JHMI facility re-locations, renovations, and new leases for the entity. This position has a strategic influence on all network businesses and relationships and ensures the short-term and long-term fiscal viability of programs with oversight of business plans, annual budgeting processes, expense control, and growth.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports Directly to COO-JHI. Has supervisory responsibility for the Director, Patient Services; Director, Corporate Relations; Director, Special Programs

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Evaluate the current state and develop a long term competitive strategic plan that aligns with JHM for future success and growth
  2. Collaborates with senior leaders internal to JHMI and JHM leadership at JHM to oversee integration and improve performance of areas such as access, care management, capacity, customer service, and clinical quality.
  3. Researches current international models and competitors with analysis of JHM unique competitive advantages and expertise.
  4. Develops relationships within a complex matrix organization and global environment undergoing transformational change.
  5. Creates data-driven plans to establish and implement business continuity, appropriate information technology strategy,
  6. recruitment of talent, and operational efficiency.
  7. Assess the business and healthcare environments and develop and implement a strategic plan for the effective positioning of clinical services in conjunction with faculty and health system leadership.
  8. Identify the root causes of issues and implement solutions in a changing environment. Strong commitment to the academic mission, with an understanding of elements necessary to build and finance strong, respected programming. Ensure performance management corrective action and partner with the highest level of patient experience/outcomes.
  9. Represent JHMI Chief Operating Officer if conflicting priorities arise to JHM leadership, departmental leadership, JHI board, external companies, embassies, and high-level government officials such as ministers of health.
  10. Accountable for the development and monitoring of the workforce and annual budget. Assures cost-effective use of resources.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  1. Master's degree in Business, Health Administration, or related field required.
  2. A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in a complex healthcare setting is required.
  3. Advanced operational and financial skills and demonstrated record of improving financial performance and clinical operations in health care.
  4. Experience developing new ideas within a non-fee for service environment that improves clinical outcomes and reduces the total cost of care.
  5. Experience developing and implementing business plans with quantifiable metrics, Including exit strategies and root cause analysis.
  6. Work involves patient, payer, physician, and family contact. This may require traveling throughout the hospital, between buildings, and between JHHS locations on a daily basis. Requires 5% travel within the metropolitan area and internationally. Off-site programming/service development and affiliate operations may require local and international travel. Ability to develop infrastructure for 24/7 response to patient or entity concerns.
