**Depending on a candidate's level of experience and education, they may be hired as a Crime Analyst I or Crime Analyst II. See below for requirements and salary specifications.**
Job Description:
The Crime Analyst is a non-sworn civil service position with primary assignment in the Operations Bureau. This position provides support for sworn deputies in the following areas: Operations Bureau, Investigations, Patrol, Warrants, Directed Patrol, Crime Laboratory, and other law enforcement entities in support of law enforcement functions. Hiring salary will be based upon experience and equity within the position and is non-negotiable.
Tactical Analysis – Includes finding crime series, identifying offenders and solving crimes. It is most often useful to Investigations, Special Enforcement and Patrol Officers and is used to link serial cases, support surveillance or tactical operations and communicate with surrounding agencies.
Strategic Analysis – Involves identifying crime trends, causes of crime and problem areas in Johnson County and the cities of De Soto and Edgerton. It is most often useful to Crime Prevention, Patrol Sergeants, Shift Commanders, Traffic, Schools and Special Enforcement. Strategic Analysis is used to educate the public, direct patrols to problem areas and address specific causes of increases in crime.
Administrative Analysis – Involves data collection, statistics and reports. Administrative is most often useful to the Sheriff, members of the Executive Staff, members of the Command Staff, Lieutenants and department managers. It is used to support grant and additional staffing requests, address citizens requests and crime reporting. It includes tasks such as preparing statistics, charts, monthly and annual reports, webpage updates, GIS mapping, UCR reporting, database maintenance, Metro Squad, Metro List and the Trace Program.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining the Metro List, an email server that facilitates the exchange of criminal activity and officer safety information between more than 650 participants.
Job Requirements:
Crime Analyst I: $20.28 - $30.41 ($42,173.92 - $63,260.88 annualized)
Typical duties:
- Disseminate Crime Analyst intelligence information to outside agencies
- Attend Internal Intelligence, KIA and Metro Intel meetings
- Maintain the Metro List
Educational, Experience, Other Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of work experience as a Crime Analyst
- Must be at least 21 years old at the time of appointment
- Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable record
- Pass post-offer physical exam, drug test, criminal history check and polygraph
Crime Analyst II: $25.17 - $37.76 ($52,359.91 - $78,539.86 annualized)
Typical duties:
- Obtain information and give presentations to Divisions within the Sheriff's Office
- Respond to requests for intelligence information or assistance from outside agencies or within the Sheriff's Office
- Attend Internal Intelligence, KIA and Metro Intel meetings
Educational, Experience, Other Requirements:
- Associate's degree in the following field(s) of study: Course work in criminal law or related field
- 3 years of work experience as a Crime Analyst with no Associate's degree
- 1 year of work experience as Crime Analyst
- Must be at least 21 years old at the time of appointment
- Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable record
- Pass post-offer physical exam, drug test, criminal history check and polygraph
