We are looking for a Product Design and Development Assistant to work closely with the VP Design and Design Director to execute the design and product development of print and pattern-based products for the Jonathan Adler brand. This is a challenging and exciting role that will offer the opportunity to become familiar with multiple categories of Jonathan Adler product design and development. The Design & Product Development Assistant will support design execution and product development across multiple categories of home products including product packaging, decorative accessories and gift products as well as working with our diverse portfolio of vendors and brand partners.

We work under fast paced timelines and are looking for someone with exceptional program skills, product design experience, strong communication skills and a good work ethic to bring creativity and life to new collections and collaborations for the Jonathan Adler brand.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design:

• Translate seasonal concept direction into cohesive and elevated designs evolving our print/pattern and iconographic vocabularies.
• Work with Design Director to gather relevant inspiration references based on design direction and create presentation decks
• Clean, color separate and create colorway options for new and existing patterns
• Work with Senior Design team to develop/design new creative and line extensions for the Jonathan Adler brand with an emphasis on pattern and pattern application for product lines including but not limited to decorative accessories, gift, games, and product packaging
• Utilize existing specification formats and create tech packs and CADs to ensure design and quality cues are met
• Help maintain accurate updates within design files
• Develop creative assets and aid in design direction for Licensing Partners and Brand Collaborations as required
• Work on special projects as needed and delegated by Jonathan Adler senior management

Product Development:

Support and track product developments in collaboration with Design Director & Product Development Coordinator including:

• Regular communication with overseas vendor base and agent partners on project statuses
• Design feedback: Send sample comments, advise product updates or revisions required through rounds of sampling and support Design Director on product development feedback.
• Final product design sign-off approvals from design
• Keep Design trackers and visual line lists current
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Product Development and Planning to ensure company calendar targets are met for new product introductions.

CRITERIA:

• Must provide portfolio link (and password if needed) on resume or link/attachment to pdf work samples with application. Applications without work samples will not be considered.
• Degree in Surface Design, Graphic Design, Packaging Design or related field
• Minimum 1-2 years industry experience in Product Design with an emphasis in Print/Pattern, Illustration or Textile/Surface Design is highly preferred
• Expert Level and working experience in the Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign). Graphic or Print/Pattern design experience is a must.
• Hand Drawing/Illustrative Skills are a huge plus
• High level of skill in presentation, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
• Flexibility to travel as needed

The expected starting pay range for this position is $50-70K. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
