Government Accountant
South Carolina
Position Summary for the Government Accountant:
- Prepare monthly bank account reconciliations; monitor and resolve bank issues.
- Receive and maintain spreadsheets for cash collection batch reports for use in the bank reconciliation process.
- Administer accounts receivable.
- Manage the fleet fuel card system.
- Assist with accounts payable processes.
- Prepare journal entries.
- Compile and analyze financial data and prepare related reports; prepare analysis of accounts as requested.
- Assist with the preparation for and coordination of the audit process; assist with year-end closings.
- Track and manage assets in the software system.
- Assist with budget preparations and forecasts.
- Review deposits for accuracy in the absence of team members.
- Disburse petty cash and provide change for Customer Service Representatives.
- Performs related duties.
Qualifications Summary for the Government Accountant:
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- At least 2 years of accounting experience.
- Government and/or municipality experience is required.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines.
- Knowledge of auditing principles.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, town ordinances, and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of IRS guidelines.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- Skill in prioritizing and planning.
- Strong oral and written communication.
