Do you love kids!?! Do you enjoy being looked at as a SUPER HERO while working in a school run environment!?! Journey School is looking to add a Facility Technician to join our team! Excellence in a Facility Technician lies in reliability and a keen eye for detail!
Technical skill and various crafts, such as plumbing, welding, minor electrical work, and carpentry are essential! The tasks of a facility technician will change daily but generally include the maintenance of company equipment, repairs, and aesthetic work.
Additionally, the Facilities Technician will assess and consider daily 1) the safety of our students ; 2) the safety of our staff ; and 3) the mission of our business. This position will coordinate outside contractors or vendors for various services.
This position is full time, general work schedule is Monday-Friday, however occasional evening and weekend work, as well as being on-call for emergency needs may be required.
Duties
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Knowledge and understanding of maintenance best practices ;
  • Able to walk, bend, stoop, balance, crawl and reach for extended periods of time ;
  • Carry and/or lift up to 50lbs. ;
  • Ability to work in various different areas of the building(s) and perform many different functions to keep the building in good standing ;
  • Must be comfortable and able to work on a ladder of 15ft. ;
  • Must be able to utilize/view a PC and/or monitor ;
  • Keep a clean and neat workspace ;
  • Able to work independently without direct supervision ;
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) with all employees, contractors and vendors ;
  • Team player, a self-starter and one who demonstrates good judgment and communication skills, is kind, easy going, and maintains a positive attitude ;
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multi-functional tasks ;
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, and against strict time constraints ;
  • Ability to use standard powered and non-powered tools ;
  • Must be able to travel to various locations based on school needs during operating hours ;
  • Performs other maintenance duties as assigned by the Head of School ;

Requirements
Qualification Skills :
  • Primary contact for any building issues (climate control, odors, smoke, spills, damage, and repairs) ;
  • Responsible for handling emergency situations or after-hours calls for repair and maintenance ; assists with maintaining building security ;
  • Strong understanding of basic math and measurements
  • Performs maintenance work as needed ; responds to maintenance requests while also making sure projects stay on schedule ;
  • Coordinates and assists with departmental and employee moves ;
  • Hangs pictures and shelving, dismantles and install furniture ; transport goods or equipment as needed ;
  • Perform regular cleaning of the entire facilities including, but not limited to: vacuuming, sweeping, wiping touch points, replacing all facility consumables, mopping, waxing, cleaning windows, etc. ;
  • Orders tools, supplies, and equipment ; perform general aesthetic upkeep which can include painting, basic carpentry, or landscaping ;
  • Evaluates campus to determine necessary maintenance work ; routinely inspects various elements of building(s) and grounds ;
  • Maintains preventative maintenance for the facilities and equipment ;
  • Handle pest control issues or calling and coordinating with the appropriate professionals.
  • Escalates issues to management and recommends solutions ;
  • Solicits bids and quotes from ventor(s) ;
  • Involved in the hiring process of and supports on-site cleaning workers ;
  • Takes part in developing maintenance policies and procedures ;
  • Monitors maintenance workers and contractors to ensure work is completed according to specifications ; may act as the project coordinator for all size projects ;
  • If applicable, organizes and leads maintenance training(s) ; leads safety inspections on campus
  • Assists the Head of School in preparing the annual maintenance budget ;

Nice To Haves
Education / Training / Experience Requirements:
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required ;
  • At least 2 years of maintenance experience is required ;
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire (this is a licensing requirement to work on the property of a childcare provider facility) ;
  • Adhere to all JSL policies and procedures ;
  • Must be able to pass and maintain clear DEL criminal background check ;
  • Must have a valid WA Driver License and a clear driving record ;
  • Excellent Work Ethic and commitment to job requirements as well as time and attendance policies.
