Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Optician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting customers in selecting and fitting eyewear, providing exceptional customer service, and ensuring accurate prescription orders.

Duties:

- Assist customers in choosing eyeglass frames that complement their features and meet their prescription needs
- Take precise measurements to ensure proper fit of eyeglasses
- Educate customers on lens options, coatings, and treatments
- Adjust and repair eyewear as needed
- Maintain accurate customer records and assist with medical billing
- Keep up-to-date with optical industry trends and advancements

Qualifications:

- Proven experience in sales, preferably in a retail setting
- Familiarity with retail math for transactions and inventory management
- Knowledge of medical records management and medical billing procedures
- Understanding of optical concepts and terminology
- Ability to apply aseptic techniques when handling eyewear
- Knowledge of human physiology related to vision
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and patient privacy

Joyful Eyes Optometry located in Worthington, MN has a full-time Optician position available.

Job Summary (but not limited to): Assisting the doctor(s) by performing medical testing and gathering important health information. Attention to detail, superior listening skills, highly motivated, committed to success, patient focused and ability to follow direction are a must.

The duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Contributing to a warm and welcoming health care environment for patients and co-workers
  • Communicating by phone, text and e-mail about patient appointments, orders, insurance, and billing
  • Assist patients with selecting frames according to style and color
  • Selecting and explaining the proper lens offerings and lens treatments based on the patient's needs and prescription
  • Ordering patient's eyewear with accuracy
  • Checking in eyewear and dispensing
  • Ordering and maintaining supply levels
  • Ordering new eyewear, and/or repairs
  • Working with vendors and reps to maintain frame stock
  • Working with insurance companies
  • General clerical duties, including accurate data entry with a variety of software programs
  • Applicant wil also be crossed trained in other areas of the office

The skills and qualifications required for this position include:

  • Previous experience in optical or health care settings is preferred but not required
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to manage independent projects
  • Accurate oral and written communication skills
  • Effective focus and attention to detail on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Cooperative approach to setting and reaching team goals
  • Sound judgment in protecting patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Ability to be proactive instead of reactive
  • Good eye and hand coordination
  • Punctual
  • Basic math skills
  • Loyal to the practice and the doctor(s)
  • Professional attitude and appearance
  • Needs to be able to adapt to change / new ideas

Work Schedule is Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm

Compensation:

Joyful Eyes Optometry offers PTO, employee discounts, sick leave and possible bonus plan. Starting hourly wage range is $16.00 to $20.00 / hour, dependent on experience.
