JPMorgan Chase is Hiring a Risk Management - Tax Oriented Investments - Principal Risk Vice President Near Chicago, IL

Bring your expertise to JPMorgan Chase. As part of Risk Management and Compliance, you are at the center of keeping JPMorgan Chase strong and resilient. You help the firm grow its business in a responsible way by anticipating new and emerging risks, and using your expert judgement to solve real-world challenges that impact our company, customers and communities. Our culture in Risk Management and Compliance is all about thinking outside the box, challenging the status quo and striving to be best-in-class.

As a Principal Risk Vice President within the Tax-Oriented Investments (TOI) team, you will concentrate on two segments that capitalize on tax credits – Affordable Housing and Green Energy (wind, solar, and emerging technologies). Collaborating closely with the TOI Risk Executive, you will manage unique risks in this distinct structured equity portfolio, ensuring comprehensive risk management and oversight. This new role has been established to help manage the significant growth in the Green Energy sector, a priority for JPMorgan's senior management. Your work will primarily involve TOI and private equity investments, which are typically privately held financial instruments representing ownership interests or other forms of junior capital, designed to enhance or accelerate the Firm’s business strategies. These Principal Investments carry unique risks due to their illiquidity, lack of market transparency, and their “first loss” or junior capital status. TOI forms a significant majority of the Principal Risk portfolio.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as Risk transaction lead for US tax equity investments where JPM is monetizing tax credits via a structured equity investment in a renewable energy or multi-family housing project.

  • Work closely with Business partners and be actively involved in the structuring, negotiation and execution of transactions. Join front office on site visits and diligence sessions.
  • Approve investments while serving on investment committees.
  • Use credit underwriting and analysis skills to risk grade renewable energy Sponsors not covered by Wholesale Credit Risk.
  • Conduct portfolio management activities, including approving amendment and waiver requests, and monitoring renewable energy investments by performing Credit Reviews with Analyst support.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative discipline
  • 7 years of work experience in Wholesale Credit Risk, Tax Equity, Project Finance or Asset-Backed Securities
  • Experience in structuring, negotiating and executing structured non-recourse transactions
  • Good knowledge of technical aspects and project documents
  • Strong credit analysis skills, familiarity with financial statements and strong financial modeling skills

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

  • Sector experience across power & energy (including renewables) or multi-family real estate (Low Income Housing Tax Credits)
