Position Summary:

Staff Pharmacist is a health professional who interprets physicians’ prescriptions, contacts doctors or other prescribers, and/or patients to verify prescriptions, review assessments, provide patient counseling and associated documentation, and expedite processing of order. Assists with patient clinical management, fulfillment, and outcomes. In conjunction with JTJ Medical Supply, Inc.’s mission focuses on customer service, confidentiality, education, and world class service excellence; assures that patient care is maintained through compliance with the company’s quality improvement plan, Arizona Board of Pharmacy standards for pharmaceutical services. This position reports directly to the Phoenix Pharmacy Manager. In the absence of the Pharmacy Manager this position reports to the Pharmacy Operations Officer.

DIRECT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides pharmacy services and drug information to healthcare providers and patients. Fills prescriptions, dispenses medicines, verifies accuracy of filling and dispensing, counsel’s patients and medical practitioners regarding the nature and use of drugs, and participates in all daily PV1 clinical activities for the Pharmacy Service.
  • Manages Verify New Orders queue in QS1 and DocuTrack.
  • Provides data entry assistance as needed for new Rx and refill reposes. Verifies New Rx, makes corrections as needed, and uses inaccuracies as teaching opportunity for technicians.
  • Follows Pharmacist Manual and ensures all PV1 verifications are completed as required to include but not limited to the accurately of: Medication Written by MD, Proper NDC, DAW code, Origin Code, Submission Clarification Code, Quantity Authorized / refills authorized, Dosage, Sig and HOA code, Date Written, Verifies patient primary insurance for accuracy, Ensure no duplicate therapy on file, Discontinues a Prescription when there is a medication change / Inactivates a Prescription when no refills remain, Reviews DURs .
  • Conducts clinical review of all new Rx: Verify accuracy of records and prescriptions daily. Accurately reviews and interprets medication orders and verify that the information is complete and accurate.
  • Review profiles for correct drug, dosage, and route of administration; ensures that no drug duplication or drug-drug interaction exists; ensures that patient is not allergic to any medication prescribed.
  • Contact the patient's doctor/nurse if necessary, to clarify directions, strengths or allergies.
  • Documents all interactions in the Customer Care Notes.
  • Responsible for CII Drug Management.
  • Checks in all CII Medications from the Cardinal Order daily.
  • Prints Electronic 222 and placed onto of the Perpetual C2 Binder.
  • Maintains CII Binder.
  • Verifies all CII medications through E-FORCSE prior to dispensing.
  • Dispenses and labels all CII medications and hand delivers to PV2 pharmacist for verification.
  • Assist with PSCO verification and returns as requested. Ensures the processing, dispensing, and shipment of all PSCO orders and medications. Generates delivery manifest as required.
  • Manage rejected claims, obtain alternative sources of payment such as co-pay cards for patients as needed. Knowledgeable of alternative assistance programs to help patients offset high out-of-pocket expenses. Ensure all reversals have been properly voided.
  • Is a system navigator and point of contact for patients and families, with patients and families having direct access for asking questions and raising concerns. Assumes advocate role on the patient's behalf with the insurance carrier to ensure approval of the necessary supplies/services for the patient in a timely fashion. Establish and maintain relationships with service providers.
  • Verifies Daily Audit reports as requested by Pharmacy Manager.
  • Co-pay collection for all patients to be 100%. Coordinates with PV2 Pharmacists, Satellite pharmacists, and Administrative Services Department on this collection process. Assist patients with high copays obtain PANF, PAN, and/or other assistance for co-pay assistance.
  • Is crossed training in PV2 duties on VBM and Script Pro verifications. Able to provide seamless coverage as needed. Pitches in where needed.
  • Ensures to accurate set all field in DocuTrack to include Doc Type, Status, Priority, Cycle, etc . Ensures timely follow-up and follow-through with new Rx requiring MD clarifications.
  • Ensures all new orders and/or dispensing is verified and completed within the Cycle Fill calendar timeframes. *
  • Logs into contact center daily. Takes overflow calls and transfers from the Customer Care Coordinators. Answers internal calls in a timely manner and promptly returns all missed calls. Meets Access to Services matrix to include Average Speed to Answer and Average Abandonment rates.
  • Participate in pharmacy quality improvement management projects and staff meetings.

Review profiles for correct drug, dosage, and route of administration; ensures that no drug duplication or drug-drug interaction exists; ensures that patient is not allergic to any medication prescribed. Ensure accurate NDC is dispensed and, if not, corrects. Contact the patient's doctor/nurse if necessary to clarify directions, strengths, or allergies. Documents all interactions in the Customer Care Notes.

Physical Demands:

See objects at close vision and be able to identify and distinguish colors. Viewing computer monitor and using keyboard for long periods. Lift and push or pull up to 15 pounds. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 10% walking, and 50% standing.

Pharmacy hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm

Requirements:
  • Holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from accredited School of Pharmacy. Must have a current, active, and unrestricted pharmacist license in state(s) of practice with all held licenses in good standing (as required by each States Board of Pharmacy).
  • Advanced training in disease management (e.g. autoimmune disorders, HCV, diabetes, inflammatory disorders, is preferred. Physician group or pharmacy manager experience is strongly recommended.
  • Has a history of conducting all transactions with customers and employees at the highest level of ethics. Proficient in QS1, DocuTrack, and associated workflow.
