Job DescriptionPosition Title: Special Ed Para-Professional
Position Hours: Full-time ($22,530 annual) / Non Exempt
Position Mission: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Reports to: Campus Principal
Length of Term/Employment: 190 days / At-will
Position Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma or GED; Completion of fingerprinting process as required by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC).
Education/Certification
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate; or 48 semester hours at an Institute of Higher Education.
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment.
  • Some experience working with children
Job Duties
  • Assist in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements.
  • Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs, and utilize effective techniques in translating these plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilizes the time available for instruction.
  • Control the storage and use of district owned property; make minor adjustments and request repairs as required.
  • Maintain classroom organization and discipline.
  • Guides students in working and interacting harmoniously with other students.
  • Provide and maintain a safe and supervised environment in the classroom and on the school grounds.
  • Devise and utilize techniques which accurately measure student progress.
  • Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff in academic and personal growth areas.
  • Conform to District policy regarding attendance and absences. Employee attendance must be adequate to perform these job functions.
  • Maintain individual records for each student.
Student Growth And Development
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Teach students to work toward self-discipline and responsibility.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus Assistant Director.
  • Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school.
  • Ensure good student discipline by being regular in attendance and on time.
Classroom Management And Organization
  • Create a positive classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Maintain neat and orderly classroom.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Will use the discipline management plan to include but not limited to:
  • Ground rules, stated positively and posted so they may be easily seen.
  • A step process which includes reinforcement for appropriate on task behavior and consequences for inappropriate off-task behavior, which is posted at all times.
  • A lesson agenda, which models task organization and time management skills and insures total time planning in the classroom.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Communication
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, directors, and teachers.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth And Development
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
Other
  • Work week schedule: Work day begins at 7:30 a.m.
  • Adheres to staff dress code.
  • Arrive at first morning class 15 minutes before class bell.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with JAC staff and parents.
  • Keeps Jubilee Academic Center School Assistant Director informed of maintenance problems.
  • Actively supports and participates in fundraising activities of Jubilee Academic Center.
  • Compile, maintain, and fill all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Actively stays abreast of new developments in education.
Working Conditions
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Frequent and prolonged standing.
  • Stooping, bending, pulling and pushing required.
  • Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment and supplies.
