Education: Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapist Program with Associates Degree.
Experience / Qualifications: Registered Respiratory Therapist by NBRC. Current Florida RT license. American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP Certification.
Position Summary
The Respiratory Therapy Lead will be actively involved with the hiring, training, evaluation, conferencing, and termination process of all new team hires under the direction of the RT Dept Manager or Director.
Carries forth to all staff on their shifts all messages from both middle Management and Administration. Communicates clearly to all team members including those who may be filling in as Relief Charge in their absence.
The evaluation, conferencing, and termination process of all current team members under the direction of the RT Dept. Manager or Director.
Annual competency check offs, new technique, and equipment training. Schedule themselves accordingly to maximize Lead Therapist coverage.
Stocking and organizing of equipment and the Department to keep it safe and within regulatory guidelines. Checking schedules and staffing needs for upcoming/ oncoming shifts- staffing or destaffing as work volume dictates.
Divides and hands out work assignments fairly and as evenly as possible. Leaves themselves with some open time, if possible, to assist staff in unexpected emergencies or situations that may arise during the shift. Completes RT Daily assignment sheet with all pertinent information including check offs, assignments, equipment issues, cart and equipment checks, outstanding events of day. Completes the Dept. work schedule for the upcoming month. Attempts to contact any Per Diems that may have not scheduled themselves or given time available.
Meets with RT Dept Manager on a regular basis. Will check e-mails regularly especially at start of scheduled shifts. Should be available by phone when scheduled off or at least have functioning voice mail to receive any messages about issues that may arise, especially if it may affect their next oncoming shift. A response would be expected in a reasonable amount of time. Attend monthly meetings with manager. The Lead RT will perform all the Respiratory Care practices of a staff Therapist in critical and non-critical areas. These practices and duties include but not limited to, all regular floor and oxygen therapy, ventilator management, both bedside and diagnostic fiber optic bronchoscopies, BIPAP and high flow O2 therapies, oximetry studies, bedside spirometry, ABG drawing, analysis with both Maintenance and QA programs in the Lab. They will assist and advise all RRT and CRT Practitioners and act as a resource and communication person for them.
Should be available by phone when scheduled off or at least have functioning voicemail to receive any messages about issues that may arise especially if it may affect their next on-coming shift. A response would be expected in a reasonable amount of time. Attends monthly Leadership Meetings with Administration and Directors. Performs other duties as assigned.
