JOB PURPOSE

JVM is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Scientist to join our team and perform a full range of scientific services with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 6 (South Central) serving Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in serving as a scientific resource.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform a variety of routine tasks related to environmental projects including investigation of air, water, and solid/hazardous waste management issues, health, and safety compliance, and assist in permitting.
• Perform routine or non-routine investigations, correlates basic data, analysis, and calculations.
• May perform routine field work including sample collection and field measurements.
• Assist in the preparation of project reports, permit applications, remedial action plans, closure plans, health and safety plans, QA/QC documents, and other project-specific reports.
• Plan and conduct work requiring judgment and substantial adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
• May also serve as a team leader, or scientific resource on a project.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in a science
• Five (5) years of experience
• Ability to operate with some latitude for unreviewed action or decisions.
• Must be able to pass a background check.

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

• field sampling
• chain of custody understanding
• field documentation/logbook
• use of air monitoring equipment (MultiRAE and other RAE products), as well as other standard industry equipment types
• understanding of air monitoring strategies, selecting action levels, interpreting air monitoring results and understanding any needed actions to take in the field based on these results.

Office:

• report writing is the primary task.
