Kagome is Hiring an Operation Line Lead Near Los Banos, CA

JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY

With relation to current production schedule, coordinates pouch packaging crew, assigning duties, setting equipment parameters and performing various product quality inspections. Maintain effective communication with Operations Supervisor, Filler Operator, Batch Operator, Filler Operator, Dump Operator and Quality personnel. Assist with training of new Operators in production facility and update Operations Supervisor and Manager on trainee’s progress. Assist Operations Supervisor in completing daily tasks of production facility and ensure that all employees complete tasks safely. Assist with the implementation and support of MES System. Assist and support with implementation of 5S program.

Support the review, understanding and compliance of all programs, policies and procedures contained in the Food Safety and Quality Management System. Understand that I am responsible for reporting food safety issues observed so appropriate action can be taken. Actively participate and support the 5S and MES initiatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate crew assignments, ensuring position rotation throughout shift.
  • Setup and monitor all areas of operations from the initial staging of ingredients and base material to tracking/reconciliation of raw material inventory to monitoring of batching procedures and blending operation to setup and operation of filling/coding equipment through packaging of finished goods including; case coders, check weighers, palletizer, carton former and sealer in accordance with product specific MSP.
  • Complete packaging reports, end of run documentation, and re-work and reprocessing documentation in accordance with SOP’s.
  • Complete weekly sanitation documents and computer programs associated with tracking systems to keep plant in compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure crew follows GMP’s and safety rules.
  • Monitor glue levels, chlorine levels, manual labeled cases, and fiber usage for cost reduction and to minimize downtime and loss of production.
  • Monitor rework to make sure that it is cut according to procedures and within the allotted time limits, monitor reprocessing to minimize the loss of product.
  • Completion of all associated documentation for rework and reprocessing,
  • Track all hourly case count efficiencies with floor efficiency boards as well as PC based computer programs maintaining continuous communications and information flow to operational employees.
  • Assign and lead all operational employees in daily position requirements as well as set up break/meal schedule.
  • Provide on the job training of all employees including new and temporary employees.
  • Measure internal pouch temperature, seal integrity, water temperature and chemical tests.
  • Understand and follow recycling program.
  • Shall write and update SOP’s on an annual basis for packaging department.
  • Ensures all semi-finished goods and hold goods are properly segregated and stored in the warehouse.
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned by Supervisor or Manager.

POSITION DIMENSIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Internal Contacts:

Operations supervisor, paste/dice prepping and dumping employees, batch operators and filler operators, packaging operators and inventory employees, temporary personnel and Quality personnel, CI&I Scientists.

External Contacts:

CI&I, Auditors, Vendors

Education Level and Focus:

High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Years and Type of Related Experience Required:

5 years in a leadership position implementing tracking systems and procedures.

Teaching/training/directing employees in all areas of operations from bin staging and

reconciliation to dumping of ingredients (including dice and paste), batching, filling,

packaging, inventory tracking.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Interpersonal and Communication:

Ability to function with minimal supervision, including the capacity to follow verbal and written instruction, team player, ability to speak and write English. Ability to teach/train/direct employees to achieve quality goals, efficiencies outputs, meet safety standards and maintain open communications between all departments/areas.

Technical and Analytical:

Ability to use Microsoft programs; Excel, Word, Outlook. Ability to reconcile case counts and material usage in raw ingredients as well as packaging yields. Experience in product development and working with support organizations i.e, Consumer Insights and Innovation, Quality Assurance, customer representatives. Experience in supervising processes and employees through regulatory audits.

Administrative and Operations:

Experience in developing S.O.P’s. Ability to train employees in policy/procedures as well as teaching employees on safe work habits and completing all injury reported documents. Ability to develop line reports and tracking systems for efficiencies, Inventories and material usage reconciliations.

Physical Demands:

Agile, ability to stand for long periods of time, reaching, bending, lift 40 lbs, pushing, pulling, stretching

Work Environment:

Food plant, cold, hot and humid conditions, wet floors, high noise levels, forklift and pedestrian traffic. This is a Safety Sensitive position.

Special Equipment Used:

Forklift, thermometers, scales, pumps and bin dumping equipment, Cryovac fillers and checkweighing equipment, case forming and sealing machines, palletizer, stretchwrappers, case coders, glue pots and machines, case packer, label machines. Communication radios, PC computers.
