Kaman is looking for a Fire Technician to work under the direction of the Kaman Fire Chief or Manager of Facilities. The Fire Technician will provide fire and emergency response services for all facilities on the Bloomfield campus and fire and flight protection during actual aircraft flights, ground turns and fueling/defueling operations.

Maintain radio contact with aircraft and respond to emergencies involving company aircraft. Act as ground controller for all motor vehicle movement on flight ramp and adjacent flight operation areas. Must have a working knowledge of procedures/policies that apply to fire and flight line operation such as two-way radio communication, Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) operation on flight line, first aid emergency medical techniques, National Fire Protection (NFPA) code knowledge, automatic fire pump maintenance program knowledge and operation, fire alarm system knowledge, aircraft emergency egress procedures, foam deluge system operation and truck mounted systems, hazardous material spills and releases, comply with all Facilities Management global program requirements.
• Maintain mobile fire and personal protective equipment (PPE) in good condition and constant state of readiness, ensuring necessary liquid and chemical levels in the fire equipment.
• Perform fire inspection for fire trucks, and all buildings on the KAC Bloomfield campus, including Corporate, Kamatics and Kaman Music to ensure all fire detection systems and equipment are working properly. Inspect hydrants and post indicator valves and installed fire equipment to ensure they are in proper working condition and are in compliance with all insurance requirements. Assist with the identification of improvements to the fire detection systems and participate in fire safety education programs. Immediately report industrial fire safety violations and abatements to supervisor.
• Escort insurance carrier through facilities when performing inspection and flow testing for all sprinkler systems at Kaman.
• Respond to fire or medical emergencies and act as a liaison to responding mutual aid authorities and report incident in writing to supervision.
• Must possess valid Q-Fire Apparatus drivers license, valid Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), valid CPR certiification and Firefighter 1 & 2 certifications.
• Perform training of per-diem firefighters per National Aerospace Standards (NAS) 3306, OSHA and NFPA to assist Kaman Fire Chief.
• Maintain personal productive and quality standards as determined by supervision.
• Follow standard departmental/company practices and procedures, as outlined by management.
• Where required to access DOD classified information, must be qualified for appropriate security clearance.
• Maintain area in a clean and orderly condition.
• Perform similar and other related duties as required.

• Knowledge of a specialized field such as industrial fire protection and safety, aircraft crash rescue methods and procedures. High school education plus additional broad specialized training equal to two years of college. EMR certification required.
• Three to five years of experience in Industrial Fire/Crash Rescue Operations to quality.
• Hazmat Operations & Awareness.
• Exposed to fire, smoke, noise, dust, heat, oil, fumes, and other elements with one continuously present to the extent of being disagreeable.
