Kansas Athletics Inc is Hiring a Student Facilities and Events Assistant Near Lawrence, KS

Position Summary:

The objective of the Student Assistant position is to provide the opportunity to gain practical experience in facilities management and customer service. The Student Facilities and Event Assistant supports the Facility and Events Management team in ensuring the efficient operations for field and facility preparation for Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Soccer, Track & Field, Volleyball, and other various special events. This role involves a variety of tasks including assisting with event setups and teardowns, conduction various gameday roles and responsibilities, posting signage, and hosting gameday officials and visiting teams.

Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:

  1. Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics and NCAA policies and procedures.
  2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules and procedures.
  3. Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor and staff members who work within or outside his/her work unit.
  4. Support the athletics departmental goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics, and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values.
  5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and working with other staff members.
  6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road;
  7. Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  1. Assist with overall setup and teardown of event space for games and special events, that includes the moving of large equipment from storage. Coordinate with Facilities and Event Management to ensure that facilities and fields are prepared according to specifications;
  2. Operate various gameday roles and positions, including but not limited to, the football shuttle cart service, fan information booth, stadium roamer, fan/staff liaison, and ball shagger. Provide directions and information about campus facilities and services as needed.
  3. Assist with posting necessary signage for specified areas for events. This may include, entry signage, team logos, timing sheets, directional diagrams, etc.;
  4. Assist with ensuring the timely delivery of game day meals to proper locations;
  5. Welcome and host game day officials and visiting teams, and escort game personnel to and from the area of play;
  6. Maintain a positive attitude and enthusiasm toward performing job duties and in working with other staff, vendors, officials, athletes, and the general public;
  7. Perform other duties as assigned by Facilities and Event Management staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a current student with the University of Kansas, in good academic standing;
  • Must be reliable;
  • Must be team-oriented, intrinsically motivated, and able to handle a fast-paced working environment;
  • Ability to problem-solve and have a solution focused approach to challenges and improvements;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability and willingness to work in outdoor elements for long periods of time, specifically in the summer heat;
  • Ability to maintain a valid state issued Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Federal Work Study eligible;
  • Degree seeking student in Sports Management, or related academic field.

Pay: $9.00/hour; hourly, non-exempt

Work Environment

This job operates in both a professional office environment and outside at KAI related events, including inclement weather. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to: cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; and working in all weather conditions.

Travel

Travel is not expected for this position.

Hours of Work

This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the position. Early morning, evening and weekend work maybe required. Average work hours per week may not exceed 20 hours, or 999 hours per year.
