KARMA is Hiring a Functional Safety Manager Near Irvine, CA

Functional Safety Manager

The Functional Safety Manager is responsible for defining and performing safety activities, providing assistance to the program teams in delivering the work products of the safety case, and supporting Karma Automotive’s Engineering teams in developing designs that that are compliant with the ISO 26262 Functional Safety Standard while balancing cost.

Responsibilities (included, but are not limited to):

  • Development of Functional Safety technical work products and standard.
  • Leading Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment, item definition, functional safety concept, technical safety requirements, FTA's, FMEA's, and other safety analyses for safety requirements.
  • Documentation of the Functional Safety work products according to Karma Automotive’s documentation guidelines and processes
  • Support the development of test case specifications for safety requirements.
  • Participating in and, as appropriate, leading Functional Safety reviews
  • Supporting bench/HIL tests and system/vehicle validation of Functional Safety requirements
  • Collaboration with the engineers working at the system, hardware and software development level and assisting them to achieve functional safety objectives, including assisting with architecture design / definition to develop a cost effect compliant solution.
  • Performing other duties as necessary for completion of Functional Safety developments and achievement of departmental goals
  • Provide risk assessment on Overall Safety Management throughout vehicle life cycle, including modification to an existing vehicle.
  • Support the Develop a Functional Safety Assessment and on-going FUSA audit plan with counter measures and establish safety goals.
  • Support system software architecture design verification and validation to avoid and or eliminate systemic failures.
  • Identify and mitigate safety risk based on ASIL classifications.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • BSc or MSc degree in Software, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 6-10 years of demonstrated progressive responsibility and hands on experience with safety systems. Relevant internships/university projects may be counted towards the work experience.
  • Expert knowledge of safety engineering and the ISO 26262 standard
  • Good knowledge of the FMEA and FTA principles and analysis techniques
  • Commitment to continuous professional development, with a focus on enhancing expertise in regulatory affairs beyond one’s initial area of proficiency.
  • Experience designing and architecting automotive systems that are ISO 26262 compliant.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Experience leading through influence.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable
  • Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink, AutoSAR, ETAS

Preferred Qualifications (In addition to required)

  • Certified Functional Safety Professional (CFSP)
  • Experience in Functional Safety development with a major OEM or global Tier 1 on production intent development programs.
  • Detailed knowledge of Battery Electric, hybrid powertrain, energy storage subsystems and controls

Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing their job in an indoor office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may spend 100% (excluding breaks and meal periods) of time in an office environment.

Compensation:

$121,000 - 150,000 /annual salary. Compensation will vary DOE.

At Karma, our base pay is one part of our total rewards package.

Compensation offered may vary on multiple factors, including market location, education, skills and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position being offered.
