Job Description

SUMMARY

Provide the team with valuable information that can improve the program goals, modernize competency efforts, and standardize data for the design, development and testing of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) systems in support of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Contribute and manage data being used in the design, development and testing of AI/ML systems to positively impact various aspects of HUD's operations and initiatives. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support HUD’s strategic framework implementing AI solutions within the HUD agency through careful planning, collaboration, and adherence to HUD’s strategic frameworks.
  • Evaluate disparate data received as Government Furnished Information (GFI) to provide recommendations to software developers for the data strategy or data aggregation plan.
  • Collect and prepare relevant data required for training AI models.
  • Ensure that the relevant data is of high quality, representative, and compliant with privacy regulations. This may involve data cleaning, normalization, anonymization, and establishing data governance policies.
  • Collaborate with team members to analyze data architecture, data dictionary, system functional descriptions, flow charts, user needs, etc.
  • Participate in daily scrums, peer reviews, design reviews, and demos, as applicable.
  • Collaborate and work effectively with engineers of different technical backgrounds, architects, and product managers.
  • Collect and prepare relevant data required for training AI models.
  • Work closely to offer managed AI services to incorporate AI capabilities into cloud-native applications. including pre-trained machine learning models (e.g., image recognition, natural language processing), model training and inference pipelines, and specialized hardware accelerators (e.g., GPUs, TPUs) for AI workloads.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics, Computer Science, or a similar field; or a Master’s degree in a comparable field with five plus (5 ) years data scientist role experience.
  • Must have a minimum five (5) years of experience in a Data Scientist role or equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience to understand various data types and standards.
  • Experience with ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) systems.
  • Experience with Cloud computing technologies, software, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of a variety of modern software, AI and ML frameworks and the versatility to learn new tools.
  • Must be a critical thinker and be able to communicate complex information in an easy-to-follow way that people with no data knowledge can comprehend.
  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) experience is strongly preferred.
  • Organized and self-motivated.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time management, attention to detail, analytic, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, etc.).
  • Strong applied math skills.
  • Able to work independently and within a collaborative team environment with minimal guidance/supervision.
Job Requirements

WORK SCHEDULE

Full-time. May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project.

TRAVEL

Potential for travel. When required, employee will need to complete an MVR check.

DRIVING REQUIREMENT

Must have or be able to attain a valid state driver’s license and be insurable on the company’s automobile insurance policy. Driving, with or without accommodation, may be required when traveling for training and/or short occasional amounts of local driving. The expected driving time is less than 10%. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is expected to be remote; however, the company reserves the right to require onsite work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position consists of sitting for long periods of time, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting boxes weighing up to 20 pounds. Frequently uses hands/fingers for handling and working with small objects.
