Qualifications :
College hours, high school diploma or GED for Non-Title I campus
Ability to work with children with disabilities
Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
Ability to communicate effectively
Knowledge of general office equipment
Paraprofessional aide certificate required once employed
CPI certification once employed
Please Note : Additional Qualification for Title I Campus :
College hours, 48 minimum or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test
Primary Purpose :
Assist the teacher with instructional needs as appropriate
Major Duties and Responsibilities :
Equipment Used :
Personal computer, copier, printer, calculator, laminator and Smart board. Washer / dryer, microwave, dishwasher. Familiar with wheelchairs, wheelchair lifts, wheelchair restraints, electric changing tables, Hoyer lift, assistive technology equipment-voice output device, various physical therapy equipment, gastrointestinal tube (g-tube).
Working Conditions :
Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying.
May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.
Prolonged use of a computer and repetitive hand motions. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities (heavy lifting greater than 50 pounds);
control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards, noise, microwaves.
