The Designer is responsible for the design, field notes and pricing of both copper and fiber facilities.
Designer candidate with prior BrightSpeed (formerly Lumen/Centurylink) experience is preferred
Must have extensive computer knowledge.

Responsibilities:
- Engineering routine and specific outside plant work orders utilizing any combination of aerial, buried or underground cable
- Copper and fiber optic cable engineering
- Requires field visits
- May have short project turnaround times
- This position requires both field and home office work. Ability to work in the BrightSpeed territories in NJ or PA is required.
- Knowledge of outside plant design for business-as-usual (BAU)
- Copper and fiber optic cable experience
- Working understanding of the RUS (Rural Utility Standards) coding process is preferred
- Ability to conduct Site Surveys with the customer on location and clearly convey the proposed build plan and their required actions to them
- Must have extensive computer knowledge
- Prior experience with the following proprietary systems is preferred, but not required:
- IQGeo
- NDS
- Fireworks
- Bidmaster
- Potential candidates should have experience with aerial, buried and underground telecommunication infrastructure.
- Knowledge with civil design specific to utility relocation, including proposing the relocation of aerial, buried, underground cable design and path creation is a plus. Well-rounded knowledge of copper cable, fiber-optic cable, conduit, manhole and hand hole design is preferred.
- Experience working with local municipalities (City, County, State, & Railroad) for permit requests.
- The ability to review projects with customer(s) and answer design questions will be a requirement of this position.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required. AA in engineering technology or drafting preferred.
- Minimum of 2 - 4 years of professional experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.
- Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
- Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
- Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
- Complete other duties as required/assigned
- Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(85% typical)
- Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
- Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
- Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
- Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
- Compare field data to base plan
- Design and draft construction drawings using standard engineering fundamentals for approval by Federal, state and local agencies
- Gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
- Read and interpret technical documents needed for performance of job
- Review and interpret design manuals and details from local jurisdictions
- Size and specify design requirements
- Complete Annual Individual Training Program
