Duties, Responsibilities & Other

• Design Phase leader in the development of multiple construction plans for transportation/roadway projects, providing guidance and supervision to junior engineers.• Coordinates with project managers while planning scheduling and coordinating design phase tasks related to project scope and deliverables with clients, sub-consultants, and internal team.• Work with all departments within the company to develop client relationships that lead to sustainable profitable revenue.• Develop plans and specifications for all aspects of highway design including, but not limited to, geometrics, right-of-way, drainage, traffic control, and utility coordination.• Responsible for quality control, checking computations while reviewing design work and engineering drawings performed by others.• Analyze and address technical problems which may involve conventional engineering practice, but also may require innovative solutions with unique approaches.• Candidate must have worked on all phases of design and have been involved in industry related services of a project.• Broad knowledge of current design policies and practices and the ability to effectively apply this knowledge to the design process.• Good problem solving, communication, and technical writing skills are required.• Candidate must be reliable, committed to completing multiple task, have strong time management skills.• Candidate must have experience with Open Roads/InRoads• Attendance at field meetings may be required.• Some overnight travel required as well as travel to other KCI and client offices as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Appropriate graduate level work. Master's degree preferred.
• 6 - 10 years of professional experience. PE Required.
• Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

Performance Expectations

• Submit for approval and deliver timely annual Employee Performance Appraisals for assigned staff
• Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
• Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
• Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
• Manage work routine of all assigned staff and assign job activities as required
• Complete other duties as required/assigned
• Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(75%-80% typical)
• Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
• Chart and provide task performance results
• Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
• Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
• Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
• Prepare interpractice agreements and/or outside requests as required
• Provide technical project and staff oversight
• Serve as task manager on select projects
• Compare field data to base plan
• Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
• Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for review and approval
• Prepare preliminary concept designs and submit for approval
• Read and interpret technical documents needed for performance of job
• Review and approve shop drawings
• Complete Annual Individual Training Program
